Good grief, I am having trouble distinguishing the show tonight from the 700 Club or something. It's UNREAL. I'm aghast. And yet I can't turn it off, tho, it's just too, too ... unfreakinbelievable.

I may have to leave soon, tho...

2. They are covering the Book "The Purpose Driven Life". The whole
show!

I'm guessing that they had two hours to fill and went out and filled it. Is timely. That girl in Atlanta was reading the book to the killer.

6. They did that they other day!!!...
Hubby had the news on and i could not believe what i was hearing...they were covering the hostage's story and they did a segue into this Jesus Company that saved her. But, it was like they had taped it for some other purpose and then just popped it in. Very weird.

7. They devoted the entire hour last night to the entire story....
...man kills judge and others, is on the run, surrenders....I thought the story was over Saturday? All the news they could be covering and they devote hours to this? Have they devoted an hour to Tom Delay? Have they devoted an hour exploring "fake news"? Nope...just this crap.

13. I don't think they are devoting time to the Atlanta stuff. They are
devoting it to the book. Hopefully that means that they can then do more stories on the truth of the Bush WH.

29. It's almost Holy Week...
The CMC is allowed two coverings of Christanity per se (i.e., not including Taligbornagain politics) annually -- just before Christmas, and just before Easter. You can tell it's that time of year when Time, Newsweek, or both run cover stories on "New light on the Christmas story" or "What really happened at Easter?" I suspect that's what's behind CNN doing an entire show on a "Christianity in the world today" topic. Look on the bright side...it could have been about the "Left Behind" series.

8. This isn't really like Fox
This is flat-out religious programming posing as NEWS/Feature. It's utterly bizarre. And a REAL turnoff to someone like me who is basically fairly anti-religious (tho pro-spirituality).

12. like i said in another thread
Why do you think CNN was giving so much airtime to that hostage. There had to be a reason for it, and this is it. To shill books for the religious right.

The Christian News Network. Enjoy

14. Please. Can you imagine how hard it is to find interesting stories on
Christianity? Let them bleed this one dry. The girl also gives out a message on empathy. The girl seems to be a devout and guileless. This is the type of inspirational Christian story that will sink Bush!! This is an inspiring story of empathy (I could not have felt so much empathy for a murderer - I hate sociopaths as a rule... bad stalking incidents when I was in my twenties & early 30s by some freak whose persona was totally put on and who liked to see people struggle endlessly to assuage his own inadequacy.. he destroyed my life again and again. So I can tell you that this was a miracle of sorts.

Leave CNN be. This is not the Christianity that suits Karl Rove's needs. This is devout and empathetic Christianity. This is what Christianity is supposed to be about. Spread it!!!

18. I'm convinced that CNN and MSNBC are run by idiots
If they genuinely want to make money, they'd notice that Fox News already has captured the entire audience of people who want to watch slanted talk show bullshit. I'd love to have a real 24 hour news station that cuts the crap. I don't want liberal bias, I just want the facts. Every time I think MSNBC may step up to the plate and fill this void, they do something stupid like hiring Tucker Carlson.

23. i find it very odd that both Brian Nichols parents and the author of book
Edited on Thu Mar-17-05 07:57 AM by ElsewheresDaughter
are both living and working in Africa...Nichol's mother who was a big muck muck at the IRS now lives in Tanzania and the author is working there and that both Ashely Smith and the 2nd highest ranking INS/Customs agent both only moved to Atlanta 2 days before the the killings and no body there knows anything about them ... how convenient considering the WH's faithbased climate and bush's secert shadow gov't and the totality of it all.

the massive push is on

25. Clarification for those who missed it
It wasn't Aaron Brown hosting the show, it was Paula Zahn sitting in. Ugh. And it was an extended Christian propaganda piece. I am not anti Christian, but I am anti passing off a sermon as news.

27. I finally found the answer to your question (Yes, it is a stupid reason)
The reason CNN did an entire show on this Christian book is, and I don't know all the name of these people because I'm not a Cable News POD anymore, but according to the local Atlanta (radio) News: The Single Mom, who called the police which lead to the capture of Nichols (the guy that shot and killed 4 while escaping the Atlanta Court room), was said to have read several chapters, from this book, to Nichols, which lead to his surrender.

He probably just wanted her to stop reading.

31. That's not an answer, it's a reiteration of the problem
Edited on Thu Mar-17-05 11:33 PM by Eloriel
An "answer" would be soemthing along the lines of:

* The newsroom has been taken over by fundies
* Someone at CNN is obsessessed with Ashley Smith
* etc.

Yours is simply another way of explaining or describing what the problem is.

I can't stand that bastard. CNN wants to be just like Faux News, but they don't have the balls. We need a new station to replace CNN.
