The 2008 Presidential Race...ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!
Folks, its 2005. The campaign is years away. I am not sure if freeper trash keeps starting "I love John Kerry" threads or "Why not Hilary" threads, but for me....ENOUGH ALREADY.

The corporate media talking heads want this kind of positioning and discussion because they can't report on what is really happening in Washington. ANWR, slashing of AMTRAK funding, war, disease, abortion...all real issues. Not Kerry, Not Clinton, Not Michael Jackson, Not Robert Blake, Laci Peterson, Scott Peterson, the Atlanta Jesus Chick....None of it. I want REAL, SUBSTANTIVE NEWS.

A good morning rant from a really pissed Democrat.

1. It really is quite premature, is it not?
You never know what dark horse is going to break from the pack.

2. i COULD NOT AGREE MORE!!
08 talks are premature, be it Boxer, Clinton, Edwards. Feingold, Kerry or anybody else.

If we need to talk about elections, let's focus on 06.

If not, there are many important subjects out there.

3. We need to concentrate on '06
Edited on Thu Mar-17-05 08:28 AM by TayTay
The recent bills in the Senate should provide a great deal of Democratic ammunition to use against Rethugs who are up in 2006 for reelection. We need to come up with a database that lists each Senator and the votes they have taken on major bills and amendments and smack them with these votes next year.

This will put all Dems on the side of working people and expose the Rethugs for the regressive people they are. I am sure that any and all possible Dem '08 candidates would also like to concentrate on the '06 Congressional, Gubernatorial and local legislative races. We have to get that right or the rest doesn't matter.

I believe that Ohio, Florida, New York and several other big states including Massachusetts have Gubernatorial races in '06. We should be concentrating on these. If we can flip a few of these Repub Governorships over to the Dems, this would be great.

7. I think the Gov's race in MA
Is not going to be a major concern. Romney is planning on running again, and alot of folks here in MA are not very keen on him. He has made some major blunders in handling the big dig projects, and cut funding to the education system. Two very touchy subject to many MA residents. As long as the Dem's put up a decent candidate it shouldn't be too difficult to oust Romney. He's a not-so-popular Repuglican in a Dem state. The only reason he won the last election was carrying the momentum of the small bit of exposure he got from the Winter Olympis in SLC.

11. Well, that plus the Dem candidate was incompetent
I am hoping that we Massholes can oust Romney. It depends on how badly we want it and how well we can organize. I am not taking this one for granted. It would be sweet to kick out Mittens and get a Dem again for the first time in 16 years.

We shall see. I will be working in the Merrimac valley to get rid of him. It's real tough here. Lots of Repubs.

12. Yeah, I can understand your concern.
I think as long as we field a good candidate we should be ok. Mass has always been a very "socially liberal, economicly conservative, and puritanically historical." Weld was actually one of my only Repug votes I'd ever cast in my lifetime. He was very moderate, pro-choice, and he jumped in the Charles River. I had to give him props for that. I wouldn't dream of jumping in that thing... ewwww

13. I held my nose and voted for Silber.
I never trusted Weld. I am so glad that Kerry beat him in '96. I would have killed me to see a MA Sen voting with the Rethug leadership on everything.

I have never voted for a Repub. I just can't bring myself to do it. On questionable Dem candidates, (Like Finneran) I would have either voted thrid party or blanked the race.

14. I would not in a federal election either.
I have never cast a vote for them in any form of federal election and I just couldn't stand Silber. Sadly, in that case... Weld was the lesser of the 2 evils.

5. Totally agree. We have way too many fights on our hands as it is--all of
which we have lost by the way. Dubya is working his way down the list of his corporate contributors.

First it was a gift to big business by making class action lawsuits virtually impossible to file by moving them to federal courts, then a one-sided bankrtupcy bill only the banks and credit card companies could love, and now drilling in ANWR, a gift to big oil, which won't make us any less dependent on foreign oil and the whims of Saudi sheiks.

We are now 3-0. While the Democrats are totally focused on stopping Dubya's Social Security flim-flam, which is an absolute must, Dubya and his cronies are cleaning up in Congress with one corporate wish granted after another.

Next up, after the budget will probably be medical malpractice "reform" to protect physicians, HMOs and hospital corporations like Columbia/HCA owned by Senator Frists and his family, and their insurance companies from a non-existent problem. Medical malpractice lawsuits are not increasing and verdicts are not going up.

Will the Democrats stand up or will enough of them cross over and join the other side to grant Dubya his next "major victory" to his big business base--"malpractice deform" as Molly Ivins so well describes it.

6. Anyone serious about winning the White House in 08 would be
preparing to win some seats in 06 for people who would help you along in 08. Our first goal should be the Senate... Illinois might have a seat open, need to get Oprah in that race the day Hyde announces he's leaving...

9. whats scary is the probable repuk pick !
Jeb, thats what I was told by someone was discussed as the probable #1 choice of the repugs for 2008 ? So I think that planning ahead for the Dems is a must. It appears as the news media already has the Dems losing in 2008, on the up side they said Air America's listeners has increased. Your probably saying who are they, well I was talking to my brother about politics ,something we have not discussed much since the 2004 election ,I think we both where so sickened by bush getting a second term ,we where just burnt by the whole thing. I really do not have an opinion on who should go up against whoever the repugs chose ,I just know we must win , and if that means discussing all possiblities, even at this point in time so be it !

10. Dems should begin pressing for Election Reform Now!
Without a voter-verified paper trail and random audits, at a minimum, we are screwed in 2006, let alone 2008.

When will the Democrats get an opening to start demanding election reform? I would hope right they came back from an upcoming spring break.

The Republicans would be willing to pull out the "nuclear" option after they finish passing their corporate wish list, and they are well on their way to completing it--to keep election reform from even coming to the floor for a vote.

The Republicans play hardball and they win. We accommodate, and too many Democrats in our ranks are too compromised, and betray our core principles. It is disheartening at times.

We must hold Washington's feet to the fire and demand election reform. How can we call ourselves the greatest democracy in the world when voters cannot be sure there votes have been counted and where voter suppression still runs rampant?

15. Really, I agree. All these trial baloons and promotion are only
for the image makers and foolish PR people.
Besides, the next election will be rigged just as the last two were.

The Dems need to get a collective 'pair'and stand together for our values, or at least honest elections -or they are DONE.

We are FUCKED, deal with it.

16. It IS premature but i still find it interesting....
... in a geeky kind of way.

I would encourage those who are also interested to go to http://www.tradesports.com and click on "Politics" to see the current state of the 2008 race.

And those who are not can use the "Hide Thread" feature.
