3. I'm missing the point here. Both Dems & Pubs are in favor of this bill!
What in the hell is going on? I keep hearing about Terri not having an MRI, not being tested, etc. Do they actually want me to believe that in over 10 years, the Drs never did these tests?

I just heard Santorum saying "thanks to Sen Weiden's ammendment, this bill will only apply to Terri and not set a precident." Wasn't that very same language that the Fl SC made Jebs law in Fl unconstitutional?

What in the world is wrong with all these legislators?

4. Political expediency
Edited on Thu Mar-17-05 05:39 PM by Walt Starr
It will be overturned rather quickly and they will be able to tell their constituents they did all they could.

Just dragging it out to appease the religiously insane.

And the last MRI showed, she has no brain.

14. They seemingly care only about the holy fetus
or corpses on life support. They don't give a rip about living, breathing, thinking human beings who are in pain.

16. Howard Dean is going to be very pissed off about this.
I don't know whether or not he'll voice it, but he has voiced it before. If I find out definitively that my senators voted for this abomination, they will hear from me and everybody I know.

9. Will someone please tell me what happened here?
It passed the House late last night, correct? And it passed in the Senate today?

I cannot believe this. The feds are going to determine who dies and who is kept in a vegetative state when people don't have the documents together to dictate otherwise?

19. My husband and I did this a couple of months
ago, mostly because of this case. We had discussed this when my mother died, and this case brought it up again, so we made a living will.

13. ALL SENATORS SAID YES?
Are you kidding me?! They all voted that unless some specific directive is given, the federal government decides who lives as a veg and who does not? Is there no next of kin involved at all?

One unidentified female Senator asked to have her Yea changed to a Nay since it wouldn't change the outcome anyway...........jeez!

Anybody know who that senator was?

18. We'd better find out.
A woman's brain-dead body has just been used as a theocratic/political tool to enact legislation that takes one of the most personal civil rights away from ALL of us.

so there's no paper trail on how they voted.

Jeez, talk about legislating from the bench. Now the Legislative branch is handing down judicial decisions.

20. Unfortunately they are the legislative body we elected.
I think they're being very stupid and pandering very strongly to a hand full of constituents, but this was a bill before the Senate and they all voted aye.

I suspect because of their involvement, this will go to the SCOTUS. Hopefully they will decide the same as the Fl SC that if you make a law that is only applicable to one individual, it's unconstitutional! The big problem is that poor Terri will have to linker through the time it takes to be heard.

I guess the Dems are afraid if they oppose this, they will be further accused of having no moral fibre.
