pre-paid online porn access
Just so you know, here is a bill that I can support 100%.

This is Georgia that is referenced in the article, but the laws will need to be updated in all the states for what is now a loophole in the disseminating materials harmfull to minors laws.

-----------------------
Chance bill to combat online porn

State Sen. Ronnie Chance (R-Tyrone) has introduced legislation aimedat protecting minors from pornographic Web sites.

Senate Bill 316 would ban the sale and distribution to minors of prepaid cards that allow access to obscene Web sites without age verification.

"These new prepaid cards pose a real and immediate threat to our children," Chance said last week during an interview on NewsRadio 640 WGST in Atlanta. "The company producing these cards has identified Atlanta as a target market for distribution during the coming weeks. This bill protects our children from the most obscene and disgusting material available on the Internet."

Prepaid pornography cards, known as PPPs, were recently introduced in New York City as an alternative to the standard age verification system required to access many pornographic Web sites. PPP cards are available in monetary values of $5 to $50 and work similar to prepaid telephone cards. Each card has a scratch-off number so users can maintain anonymity when they log on to a Web site filled with hard-core pornography. Chance's bill makes the sale or distribution of PPPs to minors illegal.

2. While I think it is an OK law...
I am willing to bet these are only sold in "adult" shops. And are probably not cheap. I doubt many kids would get their hands on them.

4. There are so
many free porn sites on the web whats the point? I could see a law that would make ALL porn sites have to operate this way by having proof of age and a pre-paid card to get in.

Graham Golden, 15 (l.), and Tom Segell, 16, show the prepaid porn site access cards they were able to buy in Manhattan stores.
Prepaid cards that unlock one of the raunchiest X-rated sites on the Internet are being peddled by bodegas and newsstands across the city - even to underage kids, the Daily News has learned.

The so-called PPP cards cost $5 to $50, and work similar to prepaid telephone cards.

<snip>

Since it's illegal to sell smut to minors, the cards are printed with an 18-and-over warning - but an investigation by The News revealed that some merchants are willing to sell them to youngsters.

"You're minors, right?" one shopkeeper asked our test subjects, two boys ages 15 and 16, before pocketing their $10 and handing over a card for 14 days of access to a supposedly adults-only site.

7. That's just wrong.
So, we really *do* need a law like this, then.

12. Yeah - but I feel I'm ruining my DU "image" by saying so
I've sparred with so many DU'ers over porn, I'm sure they view me as handing out beer, cigs and the latest copy of Barely Legal to kids on local streetcorners.

13. Me too.
But I've *always* said that minors should not have access to porn.

My major point has always been that none of the women I know who are in the adult industry report feeling more demeaned by doing sexwork than they did doing any other job they have had.

Hmmm, I wonder who did the research to come to that conclusion.

5. I am 16 years old...
Edited on Thu Mar-17-05 07:38 PM by Idioteque
...most of my friends have been looking at porn since they were 12 or 13 years old. There is so much free porn online, what's the point of regulating pay sites? Most teens get their porn from free sites and file sharing anyway, we don't pay for any of it.

11. I found my first explicit swinger's magazine on the train.
It was by the "Executive North" swinger's club, and the year was 1976...

14. That's how I got my lesson in the birds and the bees
my mom gave me all these Christian sex ed books from the time I was old enough to read. They went into great deal about plumbing, fertility, and the process of pregnancy. Every subject except - stick tab A in slot B.

I rememeber asking my mom when I was like 8 - how does the semen get in the uterous? I never got a satisfactory answer. I thought that the man and woman laid on their backs in bed and it just happened. Like a heat seeking missle or something. Well, that's what it looked like in the pictures anyway.

Then I think I was 12 when me and a friend were rummaging through the dumpster at the train station, found a playboy and my friend filled me in on the rest of the birds and the bees.

15. Except, um, porn is for kids
Content is what people should be concerned about. Healthy images of people enjoying sex and nudity are good for adolescents. Is it better they learn about sex fumbling with each other? The problem is when the image suggests violence or abuse, it can mess up an impressionable head.

17. um, NO
While I have no problem with nudity and took my daughter to pagan events that were clothing optional from a young age, PORN is for adults.

If porn is for kids, why are there 1000 new titles released every month, primarily being sold through stores that restrict access to kids?

I guess it depends on what your definnitions of enjoying sex vs violence and abuse are.

I wouldn't want a 12yo to see Backdoor Honies 4, but I do not think that shows violence or abuse either.

You wouldn't happen to be Michael Jackson, would you? I just had to ask...

18. Just a normal adult
That like most people discovered porn as an adolescent. I'm not suffering for it. I don't think it ought to be handed out, but there are bigger things to worry about than curious teens finding pornography.
