The Bush administration made plans for war and for Iraq's oil before the 9/11 attacks, sparking a policy battle between neo-cons and Big Oil, BBC's Newsnight has revealed.

Two years ago today - when President George Bush announced US, British and Allied forces would begin to bomb Baghdad - protesters claimed the US had a secret plan for Iraq's oil once Saddam had been conquered.

"Big Oil" appears to have won. The latest plan, obtained by Newsnight from the US State Department was, we learned, drafted with the help of American oil industry consultants.

Insiders told Newsnight that planning began "within weeks" of Bush's first taking office in 2001, long before the September 11th attack on the US.

I subscribe to his newsletter so I get these kinds of reports and video notices often.

I have to believe this is a ligit English news source. I realize most of this info, we at DU knew already, but this source could be enough to make the ligitimate media pay attention.

I think we should send to CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, and yes...FOX.

they're the biggest bloggers with the widest reach. They can do more with it and get it more exposure.

Once they feel something is worthy of attention, it spreads pretty quickly. I may go to Air America, Americablog, Wonkette and Liberal Oasis too.

When they the blogs buzzin', the talk radio show hosts will talk about it.

Then MAYBE just MAYBE, it'll go further. This one's kinda damaging. So it might not get to the MSM.

It will probably be ignored, but ya never know!

Don't you know they are all bought and paid for? They won't talk about this even ten years from now! They'll still be pumping the "democracy" nonsense when everybody with common sense would know it was about the oil. Only way to get the program out and about is by the internet.

Watching that made my insides hurt... and at least showed me WHY Wolfie went job-hunting...

What a great documentary. I'll have to record this when it comes on BBC. It makes sense and Greg Palast is someone I trust with reporting.
If you haven't seen this documentary yet you will have to for sure. It talks about the reason's why they didn't want to have elections in Iraq and it makes sense to me on why they cried "fraud" with the "election."
This is insane! Oh God... No wonder why Halliburton "won" contracts to rebuild the Iraqi oil fields!
