Has everyone signed this and decided to boycott these oil companies?
An email from Barbara Boxer today

Here is the link to the site where you can sign the petition and send to friends. http://ga4.org/campaign/boycott/d777esrhjkj3dw

Tell the big oil companies to stay out of ANWR!

Dear XXXXX,

Today, my heart is heavy. By just two votes, we came up short in our effort to prevent oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, home to over 150 wildlife species. I offer my heartfelt thanks to the over 29,000 of you who joined with me and signed my petition to Senate Republican Leader Bill Frist, demonstrating our strong opposition to this disastrous policy.

In the end, over 90% of Senate Democrats voted to stop this madness -- we just didn't have the votes to overcome the Republican majority in the Senate.

But I want you to know that I won't give up in our fight to stop the drilling. And neither should you. I'm going to use every legislative tool at my disposal to reverse this vote and prevent this terrible policy from going into effect. But we can do more -- today.

I'm planning to organize a consumer boycott of any oil company that decides to drill in this pristine Alaskan wilderness area. If, through our pocketbooks, we can convince these companies to do the right thing, we can still save the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from the destruction that would be wrought by the oil drilling rigs.

Send an email to the CEOs of ExxonMobil, BP, ConocoPhillips, Royal Dutch/Shell, and ChevronTexaco now and tell them to stay out of ANWR!

And then invite everyone you know to join us.

This battle is not over -- not by a long shot.

In Friendship,

Barbara Boxer

Mr. David O'Reilly, ChevronTexaco CEO
Mr. James Mulva, ConocoPhillips CEO
Mr. Jeroen van der Veer, Shell CEO
Mr. John Browne, BP CEO
Mr. Lee Raymond, ExxonMobil CEO

Below is the sample letter:

Subject: Stay Out of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge!

Dear ,

As you know, current legislation making its way through Congress would open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling.

I am writing to urge your company to publicly pledge that you will not drill in ANWR.

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is a God-given gift of pristine wilderness, first set aside by President Dwight Eisenhower more than 40 years ago, and we have a responsibility to preserve it. ANWR is home to more than 150 wildlife species, including caribou, polar bears, musk oxen, and millions of migratory birds.

The American people will not stand idly by and allow this wilderness area to be defiled.

If your company decides to drill in ANWR, we will launch a boycott of your products, and the products of your subsidiaries. And I know that millions of Americans will join us.

I urge you make a public pledge that you will not drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge -- or face a boycott of your products.

Thank you for your consideration of this critically important matter.

Sincerely,

xxxxxx

13. I've gotten so tired of the oil companies
I sold my car and now walk, bike or mass transit everywhere I go. Before I did that, I had no idea how much I spent on that piece of tin! It was a bit drier on those rainy days, but it is worth it all to be able to put my money where my mouth is!

Our entire economy is built on the automobile and it's support businesses. No wonder they are so worried about the end of oil!

2. the problem is Congress
we have own last chance in 2006, but unless we can get a majority of progressives in 2006, all will be lost

6. I love Boxer but the boycott won't work, and big oil knows it
By all means try, but they will laugh in your face. Too many people love their big cars

As long as we love the oil, and do not conserve, we are at their mercy

What have I done? I have two hybrid cars. Almost zero polution, and 45 mpg

The only way we can win if we elect progressives in 2006

As long as they control all the branches of government, including the press, there is nothing we can do

23. Let's not get negative - We are a big group. Great achievements
have been accomplished by smaller groups than us. Heck, look what one woman, Rosa Parks did for the Black citizens of our country.

5. I don't have a problem with the boycott, but who's left?
I read that list 3 times, and I thought about all the gas stations around me. Didn't she name them all? I don't mean to be a bitch here, but I do have to still put some gas in my car to get to work.

18. not every gas station is part of an oil company
some of them just buy refined fuel from one of the companies named, or they are a brand owned by one of these companies. Your local mom and pop gas station is not going to drill for oil.

Once the first companies start to drill, then we can research which gas stations are affiliated and boycott them.

Either way, keep in mind that the oil won't come out for like 10 years and then it will go to Japan.

7. I not only signed and am willing to boycott
but I also feel that if Chevron Texaco takes part in drilling in ANWR, it will be moral duty not to pay them the $300.00 + dollars I still owe them! Ha! Take that, you oil company bastards! Go ahead! Sue me! Everybody else is. See if I give a damn!

24. Hey that is a great idea. You could put something on your bill
like, "I do not support companies that ruin the environment" and send it back with no money and maybe a photo of a polar bear or something.

8. I don't have enough money to have a choice in the matter
I ride my bike to work every day, and I even go shopping by bike as much as I can. Gas costs too much to do anything but boycott the oil companies.

At $2.25 a gallon, there is not room for expediency. Only by living your principles can you survive.

That's what we need to focus on. Pressuring automobile makers to make better cars and getting the unions to help us.

22. Right -- and we should hit Stabenow and the Brothers Levin on CAFE
This is the real issue.

Pushing CAFE up to to Prius - Honda HEV - Mini-Cooper levels would postpone the Goodstein (David Goodstein "Out of Gas") - Hubbert (Deffeyes "Hubberts Peak") crunch a hell of a lot further then ANWR.

Let's face it -- the day of reckoning is coming. Goodstein and Hubbert are right -- and we have a Hobbes choice between nuclear or Malthus. And, I'm going with the nuke as the lesser of the evils.

15. Done deal, sent them this message, short and simple......
Stay out of the ANWAR region with drilling rigs. Instead promoted the use of E-80 fuel which can be made with GROWN and renewable crops.

With fuels like E-80 we don't need ANWAR or Mid-east Oil,and the DEATH and DESTRUCTION that comes with both.

I can't believe Eisenhower created the ANWR and now much greedier Republicans want to exploit it just to sell oil to Japan. Hmm...I wonder how Ike would feel about destroying American land for Japan....

19. Almost no medals on Ike's uniform - even though he had them
He didn't have to parade and sashay on the deck of an aircraft carrier in a flightsuit to get respect. Bush wouldn't be worthy of wiping Ike's butt if Eisenhower were alive today.
