Boycott Farce: Why is it funny when THEY do it?

I wrote this a few months ago to post on Hannity's message board, to make fun of conservatives' stupid boycotts over every little thing:

Dear Sir,

Although I am a lifelong user of Crest toothpaste, recently I have seen Crest advertised on TV shows that have characters that are either not Christians, or are Christians of demoninations that my family and I do not approve of. One of the characters on one of the shows even went so far as to make a joke about our great President on a late night TV talk show, at least according to a friend of mine.

This is totally unacceptable to me, and I am in search of a new brand of toothpaste for me and my family. This letter is to inquire about the political agenda of one of your products, AIM toothpaste.

Is AIM a Republican or a Democrat toothpaste? I tried AIM once and found it refreshing, and if AIM is indeed a Republican toothpaste I think that it may well become the toothpaste of choice in my household.

Further, if AIM is indeed a Republican toothpaste, what exactly what kind of Republican toothpaste is it? Although a Rudy Giuliani-type of toothpaste might be tolerable, I would really prefer a more conservative, Tom Delay kind of toothpaste. For example, I would settle for a George Allen toothpaste, but an Arnold Shwartzenegger toothpaste would be totally unacceptable.

My Democrat friends thought it was hilarious. Now I'm seeing people here at DU doing the same kind of thing.

My question is, is that just as funny when the left does it?

...but it's funny when people publicize that they do it and make a big deal of it.

You don't like a company or who they contribute to, then just don't give them your money. I do it all the time. I don't make a big deal out of it though.

I suppose there's something to be said about letting them know WHY you're doing it or not doing it since they won't necessarily notice just one person not buying something. But I would argue they won't notice a strongly worded letter either.

and it occured to me that I think it's stupid when the right wingers do it, so it's probably stupid when we do it too.

Just a little irony...

is when the democrats do it usually we have good intentions and know it's the only way to get back at the asses in the House. When the republicans do it is funny because they go over REALLY stupid stuff like that. It's always for some silly reason that makes them look foolish.
Like when they were going to have a protest for Gannon.
