Lewis Black nails the NRA/Video

The NRA's response to terrorists buying guns that are already on the FBI watchlist is priceless.

Wayne Lappierre: Because...what is a watch list?

2. truly, it was a level of sophist buggery for the ages
one rarely sees such bullshit in everyday life, so it was like watching a train wreck; you cringe, but you do look at the carnage.

4. It's good to see Black make fun of people concerned about govt watch lists
We hear so much complaining about people being on watch lists of the government, and they are all idiots. Who the fuck cares if you are on some list?

Apparently, these lists are enforced pretty fairly as even Sen. Kennedy was put on a terrorist watch list and couldn't get off of it for weeks.

5. Not so good...
Edited on Fri Mar-18-05 03:24 PM by skippythwndrdog
LaPierre starts with a rhetorical question, and Black conveniently edits it. Frankly, people on the watch list should not be prohibited from buying guns or anything else by the government. They have been charged with no crime, and preventing them from excercising a freedom would be an unconstitutional denial of liberties.

However, his roasting of that admiral was spot-on and hilarious!

8. Gun Control, the one issue where progressive turn into authoritarians
http://www.nydailynews.com/04-08-2003/news/wn_report/story/73628p-68132c.html

By JAMES GORDON MEEK
DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU

WASHINGTON - U.S. border watchers are on the lookout for potential terrorists and other bad guys - 13 million of them.

The army of suspicious characters, including 20,000 identified by the State Department since the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, is catalogued in a voluminous new watch list assembled for U.S. national security officials.

...

In calls to multiple agencies yesterday, Bush administration officials had difficulty explaining just who was on the list.

FBI spokeswoman Susan Dryden said the anti-terrorism USA Patriot Act of 2001 required the bureau to turn over 7 million names of criminal offenders and people on wanted lists who are not U.S. citizens.

Yeah, lets all fall all over ourselves supporting this Bush administration Gestapo initiative where your name is put on a double-secret list that no one has ever seen outside the federal government. You don't know you're on it, and there is no way to get off it!

But, as long as we can use it as a tool to support some "progressive" authoritarian ideal like gun control, lets throw our full weight and support behind the list and the administration that created it!

Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

9. The NRA is against this list, so we should support giving the Bush Admin
administration full control over who can be denied their constitutional rights to firearms because they are SUSPICIOUS of him/her.

I guess the Patriot Act wasn't so bad afterall, because this sounds like Patriot Act stuff.

Anyway, we progressives MUST get up and defend this list anytime some is put on it by the Bush administration, because they are going to protectu us.
