The Repubes hate radio machine have been preaching about saving Terry for about a year now. It began with Glenn beck and now the rest of the hate-mongers are on board talking about this issue as a right to die or right to live issue.
The ironic thing is that by adopting the policies they have, anyone not wealthy enough to support a family member whose in a vegetative state is basically screwed. The Health care insurance runs out after a certain time, the state won't pay to maintain the life, and they can't declare chapter 7 bankruptcy to clear out the medical debts. They're fighting to keep Terry Schiavo alive because her family wants her to continue living, which I support 100%, but if this were some poor family without health insurance fighting to keep a family member alive, they wouldn't say a word about it. This was what John Kerry's health plan was designed to cover and now we won't get that for anyone who isn't as lucky as Terry Schiavo to have a family with the assests to keep her alive.
I'm glad the judge decided to keep feeding her, I just find it ironic that the Republicans can't see the issue they have created by seeking this ruling. I understand they are crafting a law that will make it illegal to remove someone from life support. I wonder if they will include financial assistance to the families that can't afford to cover the expense.
On edit - I read the headline wrong - it read
Yahoo News: Judge: Keep woman's feeding tube in place
I guess I should have read the story. This makes no sense, the family should have the right to take care of her if they want. If it were my child, I wouldn't give a good god damn what a court said. Ever see John Q with Denzel Washington?
