Democrats for Wolfowitz (Biden , Leahy)
Washington (The Daily Standard) - TODAY SENATOR JOE BIDEN, vice chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and a leading Democratic foreign policy voice in that body, voiced strong support for Paul Wolfowitz as President George W. Bush (news - web sites)'s choice to head the World Bank (news - web sites).

Biden described Wolfowitz, currently deputy secretary of defense, as a man with an "active and fertile mind" who believes in the work of multilateral institutions. Asked for his reaction to the selection, Biden responded with one word: "Solid."

He then elaborated. "Paul is a brilliant guy and a serious person. My differences with Paul relate to his assessment of what we would have to face in Iraq (news - web sites) after the war." Wolfowitz's role as the chief intellectual architect of the Iraq war served as the basis for a question for President Bush (news - web sites) at his morning press conference today from New York Times reporter Elisabeth Bumiller.

Although some Democrats have criticized the selection, notably House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, others have praised the pick. "I know him to be an extraordinarily intelligent, creative thinker who has the potential to do a good job at the World Bank," said Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont, regarded as one of the Senate's most partisan members.

I know Biden is a DINO, but Leahy supporting Wolfowitz? WTF?

8. Ha! "Moving to the middle"
He may be trying to "move to the middle" but the only way that he'll ever legitimately and actually get there is by alienating all Democrats by moving so far right that the Republicans have to throw him up into the middle because he'll be so far down in their midst. And since he isn't legitimately right either, he'll end up like an untouchable pile of vomit that nobody wants to touch!

Sorry about the rant, but one can hope.

the war in iraq, confirmation of rice, and gonzolez

In other words, he speaks great, but his actions tell us exactly where he is coming from

3. I'm surprised Lieberman isn't in there
But then I'm increasingly finding Biden infinitely more smarmy than Lieberman. At least I can see where Joementum is coming from.

4. Does anyone see a glaring coincidence...
Edited on Fri Mar-18-05 05:39 PM by TwoSparkles
...between Biden's unabashed, lit-up-in-lights kowtowing to Republicans AND Gannon/Guckert's recent statement "I watched a clip of Sen. Joe Biden on Bill Maher's HBO crapfest. Wonder why he didn't mention meeting me some years ago. C'mon Joe, think.."?

In the past, Biden has spoke out against the war and criticized Bush--although he has kow towed--on some occasions. He didn't cater to the neocons this much, though! This is getting absurd.

However, lately--it's as if he's going out of his way to side with Republicans AND to speak to the media about his support of Republican decisions. Namely, he's rubbling the backs of the neocons.

Biden has specifically criticized the organization of the war, the lack of adequate troop numbers and poor planning. All of that falls on Wolfy's shoulders. So, why is Biden speaking about him, using such glowing terms?

I questioned the existence of blackmail schemes that served to control politicians, but seeing Biden sell his soul like this--makes me wonder exactly what is going on in our government.

TwoSparkles, don't worry about questioning blackmail schemes. That is the history of politics in this country. Its been going on since its founding...

10. I hate Joe Biden, the man disgusts me.
The fake tan, the hair plugs, the bleached teeth, he just looks like slime. I would hate to be a pretty intern working for him.

Yuck!

Oh yeah and he is a Bush loving POS!

12. What is going on is rampant corruption and sleaze...
Unfortunately, many dems are just as compromised as the repukes. Biden is one of those.

21. Exactly...........
I am sure there are many democrats who are all for our quest for imperial power over the globe. Biden is one of those. These are not stupid, ignorant people. They know what we know, and yet they go along with the agenda. It's because they want to. We don't have an opposition party that will stop what is going on in this country.

Collegiality and working with the party in power is one thing. But, this truly disappoints and confuses.

Has anyone heard how Patrick explains this one?

11. Biden and Leahy got the rotating fink stick today
Edited on Fri Mar-18-05 05:53 PM by hvn_nbr_2
I'm getting annoyed and frustrated. It seems like every day, two or three different Dems act like Pugs and fink out. It's almost like they have a conspiracy to pretend to be an opposition party, and they take turns being the finking out ones. They caucus in the morning, whoever had the fink stick yesterday passes it on to a couple new ones and they become today's finks. Tomorrow Leahy and Biden will pass it on to a couple others.

I had to check because I did not remember, but he must be one of those who thinks we must accept nearly everybody the president nominates.

16. This is very, very curious...
It's kinda creepy, as a matter of fact. Pod people perhaps? Remember when McCain started kissing Bush's ass after the 2K primaries? Coincidence that McCain wore a bandage on his head during the initial squat and pucker?

You be the judge.

18. No one can doubt that Wolfowitz is "intelligent" "creative" or "serious"
Those in fact are the qualities that make him especially dangerous.

20. Bingo. They curse him with such faint praise.
But, being unable to block his nomination, the Dems can do nothing more than symbolic gestures.

They must hope that the old give 'em enough rope adage applies. I think that's a dangerous supposition.

officials who are representing us.

Leahy - someone who could always be depended on for loyalty.

24. It's obvious to me at this point that
the majority of the Dem Senators are NOT trying to preserve democracy for this country. Everything else should be put aside, and they should FIGHT to save this country with everything they have. They should be fighting ALL of the neocons.

26. Just to play devil's advocate
Maybe Biden and Leahy figure anything that gets Wolfowitz out of the US government is a good thing. The 'any port in a storm' strategy.

This is mostly a joke, but it wouldn't be the first time that someone in government was given a glowing sendoff to a position where their incompetence would be less severe.
