State Guard Convention in town: Freeper Woman from Hell.
The South Carolina National Guard convention is going on this weekend at the Hyatt in downtown Greenville, SC. I just returned from walking my dogs in downtown Greenville. An attractive woman in her 50s came up to me asking me all about my dogs. We did the dog-talk thing for about 10 minutes before I found out that she was in town for the Guard convention. She told me that here husband and son were in the guard and that her son had volunteered for Iraq and had done a tour there.

I made a non-committal reply that I had done a tour in Vietnam and Iraq is a similar quagmire.

She answered that her son said that Iraq is NOT that bad, and the liberal media is distorting the situation to make Bu$h and the troops look bad. She said that she and her son think that the media are traitors who should be shot. Her son was there, she said, and knew exactly what was going on.

Funny, I said, but when I was an eyewitness to Vietnam I never knew what was going on. If I wasn't being lied to by my government, I was groping for answers in the fog of war. I went on to say that by all measures the situation in Iraq is bad and has the potential to get worse (what with that missing 350 tons of super high-explosives from early in the war still out there).

That is a liberal media lie she screamed. We never lost those explosives! The terrorists are bringing in explosives and weapons from Syria and Iran .. and they are next!. By now she was red in the face and scaring my dogs.

My parting shot was lifted from my VVAW bumper sticker. M'am, sez I, I honor the warriors, including your son; but I do not, can not, will not honor this fucking illegal war of Bu$h and his rapacious regime. Good day!

2. You are absolutely right

These young kids maybe in Iraq, but they have no idea what is really going on. Most are secure in their compound, while the Iraqis are getting blown apart waiting in line for jobs. I know, because I have been there.

Government newspapers and newsletter are published and this is how they are sent propaganda on what's going on.

4. I have these conversations occasionally
It always kinda freaks 'em out when you blow their illusions by being (a) a vet, and (b) Kool Aid-free.

Rock on, DemoTex.

5. Good for you.
When is the liberal media lie going to stop? When are people going to start to question things? When are they going to stop screaming every time someone disagrees with them?

6. good for you -- and i bet you have plenty of leftover positive energy
from the exchange.

it's soooo hard to muster the strength to speak directly to people. but, it's what makes us human and you have to admit, it is wonderful life "practice." being true to your heart and speaking directly to those you passionatley disagree with is "essentially human." as it just feels damn good to do it -- as well to read about it. thank you for sharing!

by way of sharpening the point on this -- being in the workforce for waaaaay too long -- where the tenets of democracy are suspended until 5pm, it's easy to lose the habit of speaking up. i know my volume has gone down over the years. but i'm shaking it off. it's much more interesting and REAL to speak up.

peace.

7. Was she referring to the same liberal media that is giving
wall-to-wall coverage of the war protests today?

8. What an idiot.
The Iraqi ship is sinking and she'll by gosh golly george will deny it until the water is over her head. She'll stand there on the deck screaming and yelling all red in the face, denying the water going up her nose even as she drowns her stupid self. The thing is... she probably knows deep down the ship is sinking, which is why she must deny it in such a ridiculous fashion.

The worse things become in Iraq the sillier these morons will act!

10. Don't let them get away with the 'liberal media' lie
Edited on Sat Mar-19-05 04:41 PM by Tactical Progressive
Say "it's a Republican media run by the corporations" that promoted the war and has been telling us ever since that it's a good thing.

But nice work on the rest of it.

11. Two-word response to the "liberal media lie"
Rupert Murdoch.

If she can't wrap her brain around that, she doesn't deserve to.
