Howard Zinn today in Boston said..... Consolidate protest info here.
Edited on Mon Mar-21-05 02:57 AM by paineinthearse
At the Boston rally this afternoon, Professor Zinn said he would never had heard the fact from the corporate media, but his sources had informed him that over the March 19-20 weekend, there were over 600 protest rallies throughout the USA.

We at DU have many, many posts scattered throughout all the forums.

The purpose of this thread is to provide a space for all who went or have firsthand information to post a link to their city's event. Let's have one sub-post per city.

This is not indended to be so much a discussion forum, but if you wish to make a comment 1) keep it under the city heading or 2) if general, place in the "misc comments" area.

Let's see if we can identify Prof. Zinn's 600 cities.

22. indymedia
No Corporate Media coverage for events in your area?

See if Indymedia has anything (99.9% sure they will). Go to http://boston.indymedia.org/ and scroll the list on the left side for your city.

THEN, citing the Indy coverage, write a LTTE to your CM paper chastizing them for being a part of the cover-up.

8. New Paltz, NY. 3/19... photos...Rep. Hinchey was GREAT!
Edited on Mon Mar-21-05 12:37 PM by ElsewheresDaughter
Hinchey called Bush and his advisers "liars who had manipulated intelligence to serve "selfish, personal and political'' goals -- namely, lining the pockets of multinational corporations like Halliburton, led by Vice President Dick Cheney before he took office."

5 pro-war freepers

He had balls to make his CBS charges. I wish just one of Massachusetts' "liberal" Congresspeople had shown up in Boston yesterday.

19. Get it out in the media!
Write letters to the editors asking why you're paper didn't cover a local or national protest story. I wrote about local protests on my blog along with comments cirticizing the corporate media blackout. We can get it out there and rub the media's nose in how wrong and biased this was.

Very little MSM coverage here, on the morning TV news, there was a brief mention in the scrolling headlines at the bottom of the screen.

25. Silver City, New Mexico
There was about 150 that marched from downtown to the park about 1 mile away. Many honked and cheered, and not one person yelled at us through their vehicles. We lit 1700 illuminarias, 1500 for the soldiers in Iraq and 200 for the Iraqi civilians. It was very moving seeing all those illuminarias at night, circling the park.

26. New Orleans, Louisiana 3-19
New Orleans once again infused local culture into its political movement
for social change and poltiical justice with the March 19th anti-war
protest to mark the 2nd anniversary of the invasion on Iraq.

The march began at Congo Square and ended at the Supreme Court
building on Royal where traditional brass bands, acoustic music,
street theater, poetry, and speakers shared the views and talents with
the crowd of 300+ patriots who were there to express their feelings
about this war.

The event was a huge success.

28. Two important things
A thread on my blog of people reporting their protest experiences from all over:

http://forum.truthout.org/blog/story/2005/3/21/9466/08728

...and a truthout film crew at Ft. Bragg to cover the protests:

Was hoping you'd say a few words, but the schedule was very full. Glad to see truthout is filming fort bragg, that goes to the core of future supporters to turn the tide.

Just added my 2 cents to your blog, a well-written piece (yours, not mine). Glad to see truthout filmed Fort Bragg!
