Patrick Kennedy's reconsidering a run against Chafee -Roll Call
Kennedy Rethinking Senate Run

"Word is that people close" to Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) "are encouraging him to rethink his decision not to run against" Sen. Lincoln Chafee (R-RI) in 2006, Roll Call reports. "And Kennedy is signaling that he would be open to changing his mind" if Rep. Jim Langevin (D-RI) "drops his campaign and if the right people, including perhaps his father, ask him to."

2. that would be unbelievably stupid

He can't beat Linc. IMHO

He's made some really dumb assed moves and has spent wayyy too much time fundraising for the party around the country in the eyes of many here.

Chafee's a moderate and just quirky, eccentric, and humble enough for lots of folks to admire him greatly here.

5. For what? Being anti-union/anti-labor? Supporting extremists like DeLay?

Acting like a wimp on just about every single issue? Refusing to articulate simply any position?

Face reality. He's not going to switch parties and he's preventing that seat from being held by an articulate and strong progressive (whomever that might be).

7. Consider this
The name KENNEDY still carries a lot of weight in Massachusetts and New England.

This may be a trial baloon to see if the Dems can win the seat the easy way, by having Chaffee switch parties (as he has indicated he may).

3. There should be no "safe" Republicans...
Not Linc Chaffee, not Arlen Spectre, not Joe Lieberman. Because when the chips are on the line, they always vote their Party. Not good enough.

4. yuck
He's had a lot of bad publicity. He comes off as a spoiled rich kid. I'd actually prefer Langevin as the candidate.
