Dean heading to conservative Naples, Florida.
http://www.news-press.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050321/NEWS01/50321008/1075

"Former Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean — now chairman of the national Democratic National Committee — will speak at a Naples political event April 18.

Dean will be keynote speaker for a Collier County Democratic Club dinner at the Naples Beach Hotel, DNC spokeswoman Laura Gross said Monday. Tickets are $100 each, and about 450 seats are available, although some have already been sold.

Florida’s Democratic Party leaders were among Dean’s earliest supporters for the party leadership position, and this Florida visit also is expected to be a nod of appreciation for that support.

Other Democratic Party officials, including candidates for governor, and other top state offices, also have been invited to the event.
The dinner also is pulling Democrats from Lee County.

“I got two tables as soon as I heard about it,” said Will Prather, a Fort Myers businessman and political fund raiser who backed Dean’s presidential bid.

“I’m very enthusiastic about seeing him again.”

1. He'll really kick the sand up there, for every filthy rich republican
...who winters in Naples, there are 10 potential democrats who can vote at the polls if allowed to register and cast a vote. Collier County FL.

<snip>

And from the Naples News, a report of a buggy tabulator: "A computer glitch held up Collier County election officials from counting votes for more than three hours on election night. ... 'This had nothing to do with the iVotronics ,' said Gary Beauchamp, deputy assistant supervisor of elections, during a 10:15 p.m. press conference Tuesday. He explained that all 96 Collier voting precincts had sent in the day's results, but during the tabulation process, there was a problem because 'the file refreshes to zero and it did not refresh.' At 8 p.m., he had the problem file analyzed by technicians at ES&S, the Omaha, Neb.-based company that the county paid $4.3 million for the equipment."

When Dean got DNC Chair, when I wrote my suggestions about local media, I mentioned Guy James Show as an example of independent local shows.

Here's a link to what I wrote -

6. Hey Naples Is Really Close To Where I Live...
What are the chances of getting tickets. Like WHERE did you get them???

Naples is FILTHY rich... used to be this county here but a few years ago both Ft. Myers and Naples surged ahead. But this place still has heaps!

5. Thanks for the heads-up.
I'll be interested in hearing about the response, too - I grew up in those parts, and I'm interested in seeing how a good Democratic voice plays in the area.

11. I Got To See Kerry
AND Edwards, but not down there. I went to St. Pete (Edwards) and Tampa (Kerry) for rallies SHORTLY before the election. Everyone was pumped and so enthusiastic! We were so SURE it was going to be a KERRY/EDWARDS win! Especially in Tampa, the Sunday before the election!

Shook hands with BOTH of them. The Edwards rally really rocked!!

I think I'm a bit older than you, maybe by 20 years or so!!!!!

10. Hope you get to go.
Good luck on the ticket for the dinner. I see the one businessman bought up two tables.

Usually Dean coordinates a rally with local Democrats. You need to check with the local party there to see. For example in TN tomorrow he is meeting with the TN state party for a rally/fundraiser.

15. There is a less expensive venue. Another article.
http://www.naplesnews.com/npdn/news/article/0,2071,NPDN_14940_3640271,00.html

"Collier County Democratic Executive Committee Chairman Chuck Mohlke said as far as he knows Dean's appearance is the first in Southwest Florida history for a DNC chairman."

Then after the usual press description of Dean as the screamer and failed candidate....here is another way to meet him.

SNIP.." Tickets for the dinner are $100, but Vaccaro said there will be a $30 to $50 reception in a nearby room that will have closed-circuit coverage of Dean's speech and a visit by the chairman afterward...."

17. Thanks Again...
I was unable to get through to the number at the link. I will keep trying. I had an appointment this afternoon and have just arrived home. TERRIBLE traffic jams ALL over Florida, and I mean terrible. We need over-passes or something in this area.

I will ask about the less expensive possibilities, but I would really LOVE to see him in person. When I got to meet Molly Ivins at the Van Wezel and get a picture of us together I was thrilled.

I'll keep trying.
