Isn't it about time we fought fire with fire?...re: TV commercials?
It infuriates me to no end how we Democrats seem to be content to sit there and take all their shit like a collective mass of red-headed step children. I'm sure many of you have noticed the latest onslaught of negative TV attack ads concerning Social Security. This latest ad is the one designed in "swift boat" style by the repukes where they're telling the American public how President Bush is trying to help all of America "save" Social Security, while the Democrats are sitting back doing nothing about it but complaining for the sake of only opposing pResident Bush. Meanwhile, we're sitting back saying nothing. Oh I forgot, we send out emails to fellow Democrats asking for support. Lots of good that does in changing the minds of the masses out there.

Well, here we go again. To listen to this commercial, you'd think that Democrats are out to RUIN social security. At the end of the commercial, the repukes, in soft swift-boat voices, advise Americans to contact their local congressmen, urging them to support the chimp's social security plans. Just in case you haven't heard this latest disgusting commercial, here's a link from FactCheck.org that describes how the conservatives in this ad are overstating the Social Security shortfall and their attacks on Democrats are unjustified: http://www.factcheck.org/article314.html

Well when will we ever learn? Isn't it about time we used TV commercials to get down and dirty against Republicans? Give them a dose of their own medicine? Wouldn't it be nice to see a nasty little Democratic ATTACK AD against them one of these days LOADED with juicy Democratic propaganda? For example, one that briefly explains in black and white, to ALL Americans watching, that the chimp is out to CRUCIFY Social Security as we know it...and how he's out to screw ALL Americans in his cause for rich people?? Something like that would make me run for the checkbook!!

These emails we get, such as the ones from Kerry and company that urge us to support the various Democratic causes, do little good because they're geared toward a part of the audience that ALREADY has their support. Our message has to get out to ALL the citizens of this country, including the majority who are those easily manipulated ignoramus repuke couch potatoes. We need to hit the television airwaves, and be NASTY and to the point. I wanna see some tough commercials, only this time I wanna see them made by Democrats and aimed toward Republicans, attacking THEM for a change. If we don't start doing this, we'll never change a single mind.

It's time to fight fire with fire. WAKE THE FUCK UP, DEMOCRATS!!!

1. Democrats should start raising hell.
Even though we`re supposed to have a system of checks and balances, Republicans have shut us out of just about everything. So many of our Democratic "leaders" behave as though they must go along to get along.
Look at Lieberman, our former VP candidate who seems to crave Republican love.

It`s my opinion that one of our biggest mistakes is to allow rightwingers to frame the debate on all issues. We end up responding to their nutty definitions (unpatriotic, liberal elitist, etc.) instead of explaining our positions. Many of our leaders ran scared at the mere thought of having a RW label attached to them. Even Hillary acts like the First Hawk now.

Forget the focus groups and consultants. We need to come out swinging.

on all issues"

Well said, and I couldn't agree more with you that this is at the heart of our communication problems we've become so accustomed to.

As it stands right now, the Rove conservatives are not only spokesmen for their own fucked-up causes, but they are OUR spokesmen, too.....as long as we continue to remain silent.

"We end up responding to their nutty definitions (unpatriotic, liberal elitist, etc.) instead of explaining our positions."

You get it! I just wish our Democratic leaders did. Until they stop letting the other side define us.....until we start explaining things....we'll never move ahead. Yes, we need to come out swinging and take offense. Sending emails just won't get the job done.

3. No..a TV NETWORK......
Commercials cost millions a fly by in 30 seconds. Dems need a real News Network. Over half of this country votes Democratic and makes purchases. I don't think advertising money would be a problem, seems to work for Repukes....

4. It doesn't matter if commercials cost millions. If we attack them with
our own ads, people with money will be more apt to fly for their checkbooks.

We've been too complacent in the line of fire. If we can't attack them in kind, then we might just as well concede the next election, too. Our own TV network would be fine, but that alone wouldn't do it. The commercials I've seen, this one and all the other conservative attack ads, are being shown on networks that ALL Americans watch, not just on Fox. We have to respond with our own ads...and put them on CNN live, MSNBC, The Travel Channel, or whatever Joe American watches.
