3. About 50% of them expect Bush and Jeb
Edited on Wed Mar-23-05 10:26 AM by Goldeneye
to send in troops to get Terri. In my opinion, the Shrub boys will not do this...they've already caused enough damage. The fundies will probably flip out...

So what is a Bush to do? Call in the police and make themselves look insane with power, or try to save whats left of their reputations?

6. That's grounds for serious upheaval.
The courts ruled. What the courts say, stands.

There will be no juntas.

9. Well they can't send in troops without declaring martial law - they could
send in police if they had a warrant FROM A JUDGE. Good luck with that, Jebbie.

Does anybody understand the danger here?

I would hope so.... Many are blinded by their emotions...

I am all for saving Terri, but this is damn scary. Talk about a slippery slope.

And it's "right" to murder an innocent, disabled woman?

I think it is morally wrong, and I hope some legal means can be found to save her life.

My issue is with those who are apparently willing to resort to extra-legal means. That's a dangerous slippery slope.

We have the power to change things at the ballot box

I didn't see where the decision to starve Terri was on the ballot box - I must have missed that vote.

There is a federal constitutional issue - it's called the 14th Amendment, you may not like that one, but it is still part of the constitution our president and governors are called to uphold.

I really, really hope this person is not a lawyer.

Very true, but there is also a danger of a judicial system that is overly eager to be an accomplice in murder.
This may just be my ignorance of law but it seems to me that there is enough room for judicial discretion in this case for any of the courts to rule either way. They seem to be ruling in favor of legal coherence (for once) at the expense of human life.

As over the top as this may sound, President Bush has the legal right to declare her an illegal combatent. The Military would then hold her under UCMJ until someone files a petition of Habeus Corpes and the Judicial Branch reclaims jurisdiction.

I would imagine this could be strechted out for months, and by that time Bethesda would have run as many tests and therapy as they want.

13. And here we go with the Best Quotes countdown!
7. "If he's just going to follow the judicary, then he's not a leader."

Yep. That's what a leader is. Someone who ignores legal restrictions on his actions. Come to think of it, actually, that's what a despotic leader does. Which, I see, is the only kind right-wing nutjobs like.

6. "Come on Bush do something right on the home front,,, FOR A CHANGE!"

We at DU agree! So you don't think he's done anything right on the home front? You don't like ANWR, Bankruptcy, SS reform, Tort reform, NCLB, or tax cuts? Why did you vote for him then? As I recall, JK and GWB had no perceptible different on foreign policy other than "John Kerry won't be an asshole to the world for the purpose of being an asshole." So if you think Bush's domestic policies suck, but you voted for him anyway...but then complain his policies suck...

5. "Failing that, it is time for we the people to take matters in our own hands."

Yes, folks! Schiavo Revolution! We'll overthrow our current system of government in a bloody revolution, killing thousands, so one brainless woman may live!

4. "BUSH IS A PHONY GUTLESS POL JUST LIKE THE REST OF THEM !!!!"

Nice to know they get it. Too bad they get it for the wrong reason, but they get it. Speaking of which--does anyone see a parallel to people who go berzerk on Senators who vote the wrong way one or two times a year?

3. "Why do you think they gave the executive branch police power? To avoid Judicial tryanny."

Wow! I didn't know that! Apparently--now get this--the President has control over police so that he and he alone can determine what 'judicial tryanny " is, and he and he alone can 'overturn' any court ruling by force. Because apparently 'tryanny' is Freeplish for 'Rule of Law,' and if the Founding Fathers feared one thing, it's that laws would prove restrictive on the power of leaders. Right.

2. "DANGER??? You are ok nobody is coming after you, which god were you calling for?"

Yes, folks! If you're worried about abuse of federal power...you're an infidel! Cool!

And finally, the reason we have to save Terri...

1. "The result to our nation if we don't giver her drink is disaster. The president's job is to protect us and we will need protection as a nation from God's judgment."

OMGs IF WE DONT FEED TERI THAN WERE ALL GOIN TO DIE GOD WILL KILL US FOR NOT FEEDNIG TERII LIEK HE KILD NEWYORK FOR BEEING GAY!!!!!!!!!

Gee... If you want people to take you remotely seriously learn to use spell check and at least spell the person's name right. I think that message was 0 for 2.

They honestly think that if their vision of things would come about that somehow they'd be much happier people.

Yes, so happy with the government storming into their homes and taking away their rights based upon the beliefs of a few.

24. Except for those pro-lifers wanting death for the husband
To wit:

To: mainepatsfan

What if the husband has an untimely and unfortunate accident? Would custody then shift to the parents? If there is a God in this world maybe he will get hit on the head and go into a coma and the parents in law will have to make decisions for him.
