Huh?
I know what Dean was trying to convey, but personally, I'd rather see people sit on their butt than work for the Republicans.

He urged every person present to run for office.

''How many people in the audience think they can't be just as good a president as George W. Bush?'' he said, prompting a wave of applause and laughter.

He encouraged those not able to run to donate ''$10 or $15'' to a political candidate they support or donate their time to a political campaign.

''It's not about Republicans and Democrats, but about democracy that works,'' he said. ''I'd rather see someone go to work for a Republican campaign than sit on their butt.''

1. He is focusing on motivating ppl. Very few intelligent ones will
go to the dark side w/o significant monetary gains.... it is against their best interests.

2. You should bold the sentence before that.
Because in context, there's not much to discuss.

3. Even with the first sentence of the quote
I still would rather see people shun the Republican Party and sit on their butts.

6. Of course
but that's not his point. His point is that people need to participate to keep this country going.

8. Yes, yes
It's the high road.

I'm sick of the high road.

We can't do in blue states what Tom DeLay did with redistricting in Texas because it wouldn't be right or fair.

Meanwhile, we lose more ground in Congress and delude ourselves with the idea that our message is getting through and people are waking up to the truth about the Bush Administration.

4. Not me.
"I'd rather see people sit on their butt than work for the Republicans."

I want thoughtful people of all persuasions involved in the political debate. What better way for normally apathetic people to get a read on how radically fucked up the Republican party is than by actually going to work with them?

People involved in the political scene are people who are paying attention to the issues and that is always better than the alternative.

IMO anyways.

5. eh, it's mostly rhetorical
It's a call to action, that any action is better than apathy.

Honestly, I do have more theoretical respect for someone who works for what they believe in, even if I disagree with them, than some apathetic, willfully uneducated person who then proceeds to complain (during commercial breaks from American Idol) about the "lousy politicians". (Of course, total neo-nazis are another thing).

7. I do, as well.
And, I'm wondering if our message isn't starting to seep through the bullshit.
More against the war.
More against congress overstepping into our private lives.
More FOR jobs for the middle class.
The times, they are a'changin'.

Oh - and SWEET avatar!

9. I'd rather see everybody involved, no matter who they support.
It would make for a richer, and more democratic experience. Dean is right on here.
