MoveOn - Needs $ for SSN ad - Anonymous Donor Matching Dollar for Dollar

President Bush is raising more than $100 million to push through his Social Security privatization plan. We need to make sure that there are organizers on the ground and ads on the air everywhere Bush goes to sell his privatization scheme. And, Americans United to Protect Social Security—a new coalition we're part of—has a donor that will match whatever we can contribute in the next two days. Will you help us meet the matching-funds deadline tomorrow at midnight? <snip>

<snip>
Remember, every dollar we contribute to the coalition in the next two days will be matched by a generous anonymous donor.

2. Nope. I don't support top-to-bottom "grass roots" orgs.

And that is how MoveOn functions. You can't be part of the solution if you're still acting like part of the problem.

Sad but clear former MoveOn volunteer.

On edit: it makes me really sad to say that.

3. So the house party where they asked us what we wanted
for our next agendas was bogus? I'm seriously wanting to know. I've notices that they aren't nearly as responsive as they used to be.

4. I don't think bogus. Just organized from the top down.
Something's happened since the election. But, they've never been great at two-way communication. On the other hand, all orgs go throw stages of development.

5. interesting thoughts
I used to be on their email list -- heard from them often during the election cycle -- sent them $100 -- and now hear nothing -- except if someone else sends me an email from them or posts like this.

7. Hey there, I'm sorry if I was a big ol' wet blanket.

My whole family was involved with MoveOn up to the election. In fact, we sponsored and produced the West Coast signing of their book. Some nice lady in Hawaii sent me beautiful protea. But when I tried to put together more events, no coordination, no acknowledgment, no teamwork. Their book could have been huge here. I even got it on TV. But, they have some kind of disability when it comes to collaboration,

But, three things that concern me. One, they have no feedback mechanism. TrueMajority didn't either but once some of us pointed that out, TM fixed it.

Two, since the election, they've been very conservative. No more "Daily Mislead", no going after Ken Blackwell (an obvious felon), nothing.

Three, the ads that were put out during the last election cycle were creepy. And, the creepiness factor is a result of the no feedback loop.

I'm very grateful to Wes and Joan for giving me opportunities to be active as I can be, sometimes with $10, sometimes with a fax, call or email. Nothing will ever change that.

But, we need to get to the next phase of internet activism. And the orgs I support understand that grassroots involves grassroots.

peace,
Beth
