Carter and Baker to Co-Chair Bi-Partisan Commission on Election Reform
Carter and Baker to Co-Chair Bi-Partisan Commission on Federal Election Reform
24 March 2005

It appears that the calls for election reform have not gone unnoticed. In a press release, “Former President Jimmy Carter and former Secretary of State James A. Baker, III, announced today that they will co-chair a Commission on Federal Election Reform.” The newly formed bi-partisan commission will “examine the state of America's federal elections and recommend improvements.”

Carter and Baker have assembled a private, bi-partisan commission whose membership includes former Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle, former House Minority Leader Bob Michel, former U.S. Representatives Lee Hamilton and Susan Molinari, university presidents, scholars and community leaders.

1. If Baker is involved...
then it holds no water for me even if he's serving with Carter....

I'll NOT forget 2000!

2. Exactly
In a just society, James Baker would be in a prison cell at some maximum security facility with a bunkmate whose yard nickname was "Psycho."

10. Carter is a good man. But, he can't keep a good eye on Baker,
one of the shrewdest and worst thugs in the Republican Party. This committee is doomed before it starts.

22. Very true!
I have the same sentiment too! I doubt very much that Carter can keep up with James "Wily" Baker. Then add to that Tom "Let's Get Along" Daschle to the mix of democrats, and you'll get a bunch of democrats willing and ready to fall over for the rePIGs.

that's my opinion......if anything Carter will end up getting bit, and sorry as hell that he had anything to do with it....they probably sucked Carter into it......he will end up regretting the day!

Wonder how much he knows about gannongate and his ties to South Dakota-- hopefully he's been keeping himself informed on election fraud.

Considering his role in the theft of the 2000 election, its hard to see anything good coming out of this. Hopefully Carter will prevail

16. James Baker subverts EVERYTHING he is involved in...
imo. His law firm and his direct work for the Saudis have fought the families of 9/11 victims in their court case.

He is pure scum and will protect the bushes no matter WHAT!

19. Baker was also involved in that delightful little Kuwaiti
episode. While he negotiated to have Iraq's loans forgiven, Carlyle Group was negotiating for a ONE Billion Dollar fee to make sure Kuwait received full payment of the loans which they had made to Iraq. I would describe old JB as a lizard, but some of my best friends are reptilian...

Carter is the only one worth a crap on the list and the fact that the pukes are VERY unhappy about Hugo right now leaves me a bit uneasy about him (horse heads?).

I trust Carter, but Baker??
That snake and his accomplices will run rings around Carter. They'll polish this voter switching, purging, criminal electro-turd election and wrap it up in a bow of Carteresque legitimacy and fairness.

23. James A. Baker, representing the reptiles
Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 05:43 PM by Number_6
He has the power. That is, even when he stepped up to the podium
during the post-2000 election stealing and commenced to intone the
words "hanging chads", it gave me a creepy, creepy feeling even
though he was not even in the same room. This man desperately
needs to be a Bill Plympton cartoon, not on a committee to
salvage the election system of the USA which his former assignments
were to sink.

28. Here's why Baker is involved.
1) First he thinks he'll live forever, and he may be right.
2) He wasn't aware of the fix before he signed on to the 2000 Florida controversy and he was in too deep to back out until it was resolved.
3) He knows Jebbie and that software firm, plus the Texas state government conspired to fix the felon purge to target blacks. He found this out after the election was over. He also knows that the 50,000 black voters denied because of this trick would have won Florida for Gore (amazing that CM-corporate media doesn't cover this!)
4) He knows more than any of us that * is barking mad and that he clearly stole 2004.
5) He fears that the truth of 2004 will come out in the next year or two.
6) When that does, he's not ready to let his franchise go down because the * people are a bunch of thieves. He'll be able to stand back and use his work with Carter as a huge wall.
7) Because he needs cover, he will endorse whatever Carter puts forth to show his bona fides.

I see this as a good sign. Carter is no fool and he will not be duped. He probably knows more than anyone in the world about elections and election issues.

Let's watch the fun as the former consigliere of BFEE turns on the family and stands with the angels.

Baker has been put out to pasture bt the Neo-Cons.

Doesn't make him a good guy but that has to impact his motivations.

40. This is looking like the battles for the English Crown.
That is the best photoshop I've seen on the 2000 election. I truly despised Baker at that time, partly due to his effectiveness. I wish we'd had our own shit-kicker down there. Hope I'm right. I just can't see Carter getting rolled. The man is too smart and he's spend the past 20 or so years talking nasty tyrants into holding reasonable elections. Good practice for the BFEE, current and out of favor.

I know we don't like Baker, but remember this has to be a bi-partisan comission. As difficult as it is to imagine, I am sure there are many the other side who don't like Carter.

I think at least some good will come this; I hope a lot of good comes of it.
