Bush flies in at 1 AM to sign bill but now pretends he was not involved ?
Bush is now pretending to distance himself from the Schiavo affair. This after, concluding it was a political "winner", flew into Washington from his vacation in Crawford to sign the bill by his Republican buddies in Congress. Now, he is mysteriously quiet on the subject. Jeb Bush seems to be the frontman on this battle? Just an observation.

1. He is distancing himself--not pretending to do so. He is to appear
presidental--above the fray now.

12. He never intended to REALLY save her. Just wanted to "act" like was.
That's what he does best. Just watch...he'll come back "big time" once she's dead to villify his opponents...and hold himself up as her could've-been "saviour."

Wait...and watch. He's not done yet.

5. Well, since we all know he's a decisive man o' action
And he never, e-e-e-ver bases his decisions on the poll numbers (just on what his gut tells him is right), I'm sure we'll see the little rat-faced weasel any minute now explaining that he wasn't doing this to win any popularity contests. Being the first time he's spoken the truth, even unwittingly, the press corps will naturally sanitize the comment to make it look like he said something coherent.

6. Anyone know the cost to the taxpayers for his "emergency" round trip
flight from Crawford to Washington for this? We need to include
the increased price of gas, of course.

8. comment from a relatively uninformed Dem who just saw F 9/11
She was outraged that Bush would fly in during the middle of the night for Schiavo and did not fly into DC immediately after 9/11 to lead the nation.

10. of course he's distancing himself...
there isn't much for him to gain by staying in this circus. he clearly thought that he could pander to the fundamentalist wackos and gain some political points, so he did.

perhaps he was surprised by the opinion polls and stopped. or perhaps he never planned to do anything more than one stupid gesture.

either way, he's done. because there isn't anything more he can gain.
