The Dems better not put out a SS plan of their own...
Dubya and the right are trying to bait the Dems into putting out a plan so they can trash it... and take the focus off of their crappy plan.

Those commercials are hilarious, by the way. 'In ten seconds try to come up with a plan the Dems have put forward.'

Fortunately, the American public is not buying it. Everyone knows that SS is NOT in a crisis. The current economic situation, such as the deficit, the dollar, gas prices, and jobs is what people care about. Not some MINOR problem that may come about in another 40 years.

Everyone also knows that all SS needs is some minor tweaking. It's only the diehard retarted Bush supporters that choose to be blind about this fact.

Currently the Dems need to just stand their ground and keep quiet. Bush and Repugs are doing just fine making asses of themselves.

3. There are lots of options to update the plan. Bush has not put his
plan down on paper. Bush only talks vaguely about his plan.

Vague is not leadership. Vague is not a plan. Be a man Mr. Bush and put 'pen to paper' since you were so keen on 'boots on the ground'. Let's see your plan!

4. The Plan
They have a plan.

It's called Social Security.

It's been working since FDR signed it into law.

Am I missing something?

5. That is exactly what they should say.
I would love to hear a DEM on TV say just that.

6. I would like to see them keep saying this
I don't want the RW out there having the argument all to themselves.

I would like to see a response ad to the (I think) Progress for American Voters group that put the stopwatch ad together that simply states that we have a plan; it's called Social Security.

We need to be vocal in what we believe in. Otherwise the other side will control the debate.

8. It's needed a major change about
once a generation.

Should the strategy be that no more changes should ever be allowed? That doesn't seem too realistic.

13. FDR's plan
was that only the first $ 8,000 (I think - maybe less) was subject to FICA tax and the maximum rate was 1 %. There was no widow's benefit, disability benefit or survivor benefit.

Yah I think it's been 'minorly' adjusted a time or two.

10. Bush's people can't come up with a plan...so they want the dems to do it
Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 11:08 AM by Atman
You know Bush will first trash whatever the dems say, let the talking heads trash the dems for a week, then co-opt everything the dems offer as his own the following week. It's his m.o. ..."give me a solution YOUR constituency would vote for, so I can make it part of my own plan...that I don't have."

The dems are right on this one. Sit back, shut up, and hand Bush a bigger shovel.

14. We told you so.
For years we have been saying that if the pukes get hold of SS they will trash it. Our plan has been to keep the pukes hands off of SS, and so far, so good.

for others to steal. The repugs have nothing new so they use social wedge issues to divide, then wait for Democrats to voice new opinions then they swoop down and modify them into their own and voila! a new plan by the repugs stolen hot off the presses of Dems.

17. of course you're right.....
....if the Dems were to say anything it could be Social Security IS our plan!!!!! But, I agree, they should just be silent and let them twist in the wind. All we need to do is look at our watches and tap our foot while we wait on their "plan".
It's tempting to ask them, why didn't you demand OUR plan for an energy policy? Where was your insistence that we have OUR budget proposal to present for debate? Why weren't you guys screaming for OUR drug bill to put on the table?
Anyone here old enough to remember the Carter/Ford debate when Gerald Ford declared that Poland was not run by the Soviet Union? That drew a gasp from everyone that he could be so ignorant. And Carter's following rebuttal? He passed. He knew he didn't need to expound on a mistake so obvious. He knew not to take the focus off of what had just been said. He trusted that the American public knew better and he trusted they were making their own rebuttals in their living rooms. It was brilliant.
You're right here. Let them hang themselves.

19. Doubt we will.. I heard Dean.. SS IS our plan... we dont need a new plan..
change a few numbers, like the cap raising.... and we can get back to solving real problems.. like getting bush out of office... He doesnt want to save any New-Deal style programs.

"STOP trying to dismantle Social Security Mr. President" Dean says...
