Shiavo is not suffering, and she is not "starving to death"
Please, everyone listen to this NPR program which aired today. It will give you a greater understanding of the truth. Shiavo has no conscious awareness. She is a "persitant vegitative state." And, if if she were "minimally conscious" as some argue it would be even more cruel to keep her body alive. Please listen to this. The truth has been absent in so much of this tragedy.

Assessing Awareness

Talk of the Nation, March 25, 2005 · As Terri Schiavo remains in hospice care and without a feeding tube, new questions are being raised about her level of awareness. How is a "persistent vegetative state" different from a "minimally conscious state," and how do neurologists diagnose the difference?

Guests:

James Bernat, professor of neurology, Dartmouth Medical School

Timothy E. Quill, professor of medicine, psychiatry and medical humanities. Director, Center for Palliative Care and Clinical Ethics, University of Rochester Medical Center

1. But, but...being accurate doesn't fit with the agenda!
And, we can't have that!

2. Facts , facts...
Why trivialize this media event with mere facts?
Was this on "Science Friday?" If so it was a great show.

3. i had to decide to remove my dad's feeding tube
and he died so peacefully. he died 6 days later, the last 2 or 3 he was asleep. he stopped breathing in his sleep, and was completely peaceful. it was the way anyone would want to die.

the biggest truth was that I HAD ALREADY LOST MY FATHER. he died when he had the stroke that necessitated the feeding tube. it was infinitely more painful to see him suffer than it was to let him go.
