Dissent in Freeper Central - good blue day in a red state
Just returned from a regional sports event for one of the grandkids. When I went out to the parking lot to come home someone with some guts had struck a few of the cars bearing */Cheney stickers. I saw at least five different vehicles where someone had written (looks like white shoe polish on the windows) "F*uck Bush, F*ck Cheney and F*uck you if voted for the a$$holes!" Another one had "Bush Sucks and so do you" that was strung out all the way around the vehicle.

There were the usual dismay for such potty language but I saw more than a few people elbowing each other and laughing.

Since it was at a high school I choose to believe that we have a few political savvy kids who are on the job.:bounce:

2. Funny, as long as they stuck to the windows!
I really disagree with this when it damages the paint! That's a VERY expensive repair!

30. I looked, it was on the windows only, no paint damage.
I'm with you, it is vandalism when property gets harmed in anyway. Just a little water will make those vehicles fit for church tomorrow morning.

If I were a an 18 year old male, I know I'd be PISSED.

I'm pissed anyway for ALL the PARENTS of every young man of draft age.

Good to hear they didn't do anything to actually cause damage...

Funny as hell... I knew some kids in high school that would have done the same thing!

8. The repair of a car is inconsequential...
to the repair of a nation. i try really hard to admonish the ignorance and not the person, but its getting harder every day. Any occasion that opens an eye is a good one.

9. Stickers on gas pumps
Some imps around here are putting stickers on gas pumps, right next to the price per gallon. They read something like this:

"Thanks a pantload, George W. Bush.

You and the Oil Republicans are responsible
for these outrageous gas prices."

10. Yeah cool
We should go around tampering with other people's property. That makes us look real good.:eyes:

We need to rise above this kind of crap. Sorry, but as a Democrat for over 55 years, I hate to see this kind of stuff. It serves no good purpose.

17. How 'bout printing 'em on those static cling stickers, then?
They could be peeled off, but the message would be there for a while before the owner got wind of their existance.
No damage to the paint and the word-of-mouth (sticker) out and in the brains of millions.

19. Respectfully, I say no
If we feel we have to resort to getting our political opinions across by putting them on the private property of another US citizen against their will, then we are no better than the repukes. I didn't serve my country for 5 years to give anyone that "right."

11. Good. I was tempted to leave a few messages myself this afternoon
Saw one */Cheney lover with another big sign that says:

God is Pro-life!

Oh really? Well then God must hate George Bush because he is responsible for 10s of thousands of deaths.

12. What is the point in handing the other side propaganda tools like this?
This is completelly childish AND criminal. Depending on who's car it was and how pissed off they were, pics of that could be spread all over the internet in a matter of hours providing the other side with valuable propaganda about how "nutty, petty, and vicious" democrats are.

Its hard to make any points with the public when you resort to common vandalism to do it.

Fucking grow up eh.

15. protests
I've been to a few protests and marches and have seen the 'f*ck bush' signs and I wondered just who do they think that influences. At the very best it only reinforces the beliefs of those who have an extreme hatred of Bush. I'm not saying there isn't decent reasons for the anger, but I see little value is that kind of display. For the supporter of Bush it only further alienates them. For the middle of the roaders it provides no reason to reevaluate Bush actions. It reminds me of the HRC campaign of 'George Bush...your fired'. It does nothing to further the cause.

16. ..however
I live in a very red state and I was off to a farm sale today. The crowd is your perfect Bush crowd. But I heard a guy say that 'I voted for Bush and I think I voted for the wrong guy'. Only one example but I'm sure there are more.

20. That's cool!
Regarding the original post, yes it makes us look bad or childish, but the predominate issue is that this is a RED state that this action took place. To me, that speaks volumes.

22. No that is not the issue
Edited on Sat Mar-26-05 07:09 PM by Blue Moon
You can get any yahoo to go to a red or blue state and illegally disrespect the other guy's right to his opinion. The real issue is upholding the principles we believe in. This car stuff is absolutely contrary to everything the Democratic Party holds as dear. People in this great country have DIED for the right to let all speak their peace within the bounds of our law. If you take the postion "if it feels good, then do it" then we are nothing more than an anarchistic pissant country. WE AREN'T. We are the greatest democracy the world has ever known. And I'll be damned if some snot nosed youngster (or oldster)starts unravelling the fabric that has made us great.

25. I do not condone the destruction of property. I understand and agree
with what you are saying. I was merely saying that such an action, most likely done by juveniles, in a red state is quite a statement. I do not take the position that "if it feels good do it". I have lost family in this country's wars since the Revoloution, I have had family memebers starve in German POW camps -- I am well aware of the price paid for our freedom of speech. I simply was responding to where this action to place -- not the action itself.

26. Thanks DODI
I'm not upset with you. I'm upset with the morons who do stuff like this. I don't really agree that juveniles (or anyone) defacing property is "quite a statement." If anything, its merely quite a statement of stupidity.

21. I see nothing wrong with putting a flyer under a windshield wiper
as this is done all the time around here for various things. I'd like to say something like this:

Hello. I see from your bumper stickers you voted for Bush.

When you voted for Bush, did you vote for him to destroy Social Security?

When you voted for Bush, did you vote for rapidly rising gas prices?

When you voted for Bush, did you vote for him to disrespect our military and veterans by cutting benefits and requiring service in a war that never seems to end?

23. Sure this is funny but...
Edited on Sat Mar-26-05 07:13 PM by SF Bay Area Dem
... using shoe polish on the actual paint is not acceptable and we should condemn that. We are passionate about our positions and we should use the energy that passion creates to write letters to the editor, sign up new Democratic voters, etc... causing vandalism and breaking the law helps nothing and only brings scorn from people who could be convinced through LEGAL actions that we are a better choice.

Writing juvenile crap on cars does not help.

I use it on my own windows . Very handy

I've never used it on other people's cars though.

however it was someone defacing my car with red
window chalk (bomb iran)that gave me the idea
to use it on my own windows .

it's very juvenile yet I cannot disapprove - these assholes are selling our country down the river and the people who support them need to be held accountable, even in a small way.
