Hi. My name is Avery Friend, and I am thirteen years old. We are all here today to talk about a better democracy for everyone. In a democracy everyone should have a voice, but in Mr. Bush’s world, only the rich and powerful get to be heard. Well…we are here to get that changed!
I heard that Mr. Bush won the election on the “so-called” moral-values issue. Are Mr. Bush’s policies really moral?
Mr. Bush and his neo-con friends wanted to get into Iraq long before September 11th 2001.
The terrible World Trade Center tragedy that occurred on 9/11 had absolutely NO connection to I but Mr. Bush USED the grief of those families, and he USED the fear of our citizens from that horrific event as an opportunity …an excuse… to start a war he had planned long before. Moral Values? My generation deserves a country that does not star unprovoked wars, and we certainly should not inherit the massive deficit Mr. Bush is building up as a price for his war. I am a moral child, and I have a voice.
Who is going to be a voice for the children who no longer have families or homes to go to, thanks to Mr. Bush’s war? Who is going to be a voice, not only for these people, but for the rest of the world? For instance, those dying of AIDS in Africa. Who will be a voice for them? Certainly not America. Because America talks the talk but doesn’t walk the walk. The Administration sympathizes with the people in Africa but does next to nothing to help them. Moral values? Aren’t genocide and death by AIDS and poverty as important as anything else on a moral agenda?
Moral Values? How about counting the dead Iraqi civilian families, in the death toll …to be HONEST about the human cost of your war, Mr. Bush?
Moral Values? How about the poverty here in your own country? The cost of your tax cuts for your corporate friends at the expense of the poorest of our citizens.
Moral Values? How about respect for the earth we share with the rest of the world for our short time here? The cost of your unapologetic disregard for our environment. We aren’t fooled when you call it “Clean Air!” And you know, my mom told me not to lie. That’s against one of your 10 commandments.
Moral Values? How about not passing judgment against another human being because of race, background, religion, or sexual orientation? NOT moral.
Of course, it’ll all work out, right? Because Mr. Bush tells us he has consulted with God, and he has been given permission to have this war. I mean, God isn’t worried at all about those dying in Africa. No, God is more concerned with making sure that Mr. Bush’s views are imposed on the rest of the world. Seriously, does anyone buy that? Bush sounds like he’s trying to be the MESSIAH. There is NO just reason for this war. Bush isn’t worried about the people that don’t have a voice! He’s just happy to go ahead with his agenda to help the rich and powerful; and while he may fall into that category, he and his neo-con appointees are morally bankrupt. Well, I know that Jesus was a humble, peaceful man. So, Mr. Bush, sorry to break it to you, but you’re NOT the Messiah, and God does NOT tell you which children can or cannot be killed as the ‘price of your freedom’. Because if the Messiah was more worried about Halliburton and finishing his daddy’s business with Saddam Hussein in a war that he planned before 9/11, than those poor families whose country has been destroyed in the process, then I’d lose faith in the entire Christian religion. You are not that powerful Mr. Bush…God hears everyone, and we will not lose faith in what we believe.
Those people who don’t have a voice? I’M going to be a voice for them. WE’RE going to be a voice for them. And we’ll scream through the veil that the Bush Administration has placed on the media. We’ll have OUR voices heard, and in the process, everyone else’s too. I am a moral child, and I do have a LOUD voice. Ask anyone who knows me.
Thank you.
