Advice for Democrats from a Republican ex-senator
I agree 100 percent. We need to nationalize the congressional elections.

In a regular e-mail commentary he distributes, former Senator Dave Durenberger, Republican of Minnesota, wrote, "If I were a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate in Minnesota in 2006, I would make DeLay the issue in the campaign right now."

1. Tom DeLay won't be an issue in 2006
Tom DeLay will be out of Congress and on his way to prison long before the election.

9. One can hope
Don't forget Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz. I want them all in a cell together. I also think for us to pick up some more seats in 2006 is to talk about the Schavio case (lack of privacy, State rights etc), SS, economy. There's lots to talk about. Just can't ignore everybody.

3. I think you're being hopelessly optimistic

I don't think the bugman will have any problem avoiding that fate in the short term, i.e., the next two years. The republican party controls congress, and they've shown themselves willing to change the rules to protect him whenever he needs it. He's convinced he's on a mission from god, and he will fight tooth and nail, lie, cheat and steal to hang on to power.

If the Dems turn '06 into a referendum on Delay, AND the repugs lose control of the House, THEN that bastard will have to pay the piper.

I wish you were right, Jack Rabbit, I really do, but I just don't see it.

4. DeLay won't be in prison
Edited on Sat Mar-26-05 11:23 PM by quaoar
Hell, Ken Lay is still walking around.

DeLay has it rigged so he couldn't be dethroned unless -- as a former Louisiana governor once said -- he is found in bed with a live boy or a dead girl.

5. Yes, that was Edwin Edwards, wasn't it?
Former Governor Edwards is currently residing in Ft. Worth, Texas at the Federal Medical Center, an administrative facility of the federal Bureau of Prisons.

He is due to be released in 2011.

8. Yes
But that was many years and a couple trials after he made that statement.

7. I'd be cautious about taking advice....
....from any Republican....as long as dear old Tom keeps doing what he did last week, I see no immediate reason to help precipitate a fumigation of the Republican Party....let them waff-in, and absord, the stench of Delay as long as possible....

....we have a fine, honorable prosecutor in Texas holding the sword-of-justice over Toms' head....these things can take time....
