Schiavo protester is a registered sex offender
Sun Mar 27th, 2005 at 12:29:22 PST

An Associated Press article is beginning to circulate at http://www.wfmynews2.com/news/local_state/local_article.aspx?storyid=38304
and elsewhere regarding 10 year old Joshua Heldreth and his father, Scott Heldreth. Heldreth is a longtime Operation Rescue/Operation Save America participant as is clear from a simple Google search and any claim that his son induced him to come to Pinellas where many other OR/OSA people and their leadership were present is clearly bogus.

Further, Scott Heldreth is a registered sex offender in the state of Florida, marked as "absconded from registration," according to this FDLE flyer:

47. It was two counts...
... but possibly with one person. Hard to say if it's statutory rape because a minor was involved or if his victim resisted, and was a minor, as well. This is his own account of it, but note the nature of his conversion:

64. Not just drugs and alcohol, it was also the "humanistic thinking"
"... the clouds of darkness which comes from excessive use of drugs, alcohol, and the humanistic thinking ..."

There may also have been some Darwinism involved.

70. Most likely...
... it was that humanistic thinking that was principally involved. :)

Begs the question--would there be any fundies to speak of without jailhouse conversions? My quick answer would be yes, but not so many, and not so many out fussing around in the lives of others....

17. Could be a planned look . . .
he knew he was getting his mug shot taken, the photo most people would see when any alert was issued, so why not make himself look as evil as possible -- bug the eyes and smirk, wear an evil, patchy beard -- then on release return to a semi-normal appearance, the better to avoid detection. That'd be evil.

Or he may just be a psychotic violent pedophile who looks the part. That works too.

65. That Heldreth guy looks like a creep, but Rev. O'Donnell
seems to be a different sort. Here's from one of those Google hits:

Father Bill O'Donnell:
The High Priest of Protests

He is a Catholic priest facing the possibility of jail time. No, not because of that. Perish the thought. The Rev. Bill O'Donnell has been arrested about 300 times over four decades, but it's always because his feet remain planted on the moral high ground, and his conscience and his God won't let him turn away.

Marching with Cesar Chavez for the rights of migrant farmworkers? Father Bill was there.

Scaling the barbed-wire fence at the Indonesian Consulate in San Francisco to protest repression in East Timor? Father Bill was there.

Traveling to El Salvador to fight for freedom, to Cuba to lift the embargo? Catching a ride with his buddy, actor Martin Sheen, out to Mercury, Nev., to circle the site of underground nuke testing and hold prayer vigils? Father Bill was there, always. O'Donnell, 72, has been booked at many a police station across the land, but has almost always made it back to St. Joseph the Worker Church in Berkeley for dinner or at least the Sunday service. Oh, he did a week in the jail in Santa Rita once in the '80s after a vociferous protest at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, but mostly authorities recognize his civil disobedience for what it is - "confronting our government," he says, "when it morally misbehaves."

On July 8, however, O'Donnell will go on trial in Columbus, Ga., charged along with 42 others with trespassing on federal property at Fort Benning, home of the Western Hemisphere Institute of Security

but I see some other posters have revealed the distinction.

I have found this;

- This guy sets off my pedophile alarm like crazy.
When I was a Boy Scout, there was a 'Father Paul' who loved to come to our meetings.
He was nearly sixty years old, and he loved to 'tickle' us.

I hit him once... 'playfully'.

He never tickled me again.

Thank you for your efforts to rectify my ambiguity.

96. Is Operation Rescue a Christian Identity White Supremacist Hate Group?
Edited on Mon Mar-28-05 12:57 PM by ultraist
They are an anti Gay, pro life, "Christian" militant group. They spew Creationist rhetoric and Heldreth recently made a social Darwinist comment about the 'strong surviving' (that sounds like white supremacy speak). They sure seem to have all of the characteristics of a KKK faction group:

http://www.gayday.com/news/1998/daily_news.asp

Operation Rescue Gay Day Protestors
Operation Rescue Protest Results in 5 Arrests
5 of the approximately 50 to 60 anti-abortion protesters who attempted to block traffic by laying down in a roadway were arrested by Orlando Police. Two were minors, Keith McGlade (age 17) and Eric McGlade (age 12) who were released without bail to the custody of their parents. Others arrested include Eva Edl, Howard Heldreth and Josh Turk, currently being held pending $1,000 bond (reduced from the original $2,500 bond).
Operation Rescue had announced to the press that they would have several hundred protesters. The limited turnout was expected by Gay Day organizers and Orlando community leaders, as Operation Rescue has historically over inflated estimates in order to attract media attention.

So why do fruitcakes like Terry keep insisting on making this world God's kingdom?

Hey, Randy! If you really want to conquer the world, why not do what Jesus' did: love one another, forgive one another, be a peacemaker, be meek and humble?

Guess that's just not as much fun as being a horse's ass!

What the heck is wrong with these nut cases? Well, they're all perverts, pedophiles, and closeted sadists! Makes perfect sense to me since they obviously would prefer Terri spends the next fifty years in limbo rather than let her spirit end it's journey here on earth and go home to her maker!

98. It's All About Control
Militant fundamentalism and pedophilia have the same root--the need to control other people.

I really believe one of the main reasons grown men are attracted to children (and I think it's the age, not the gender that's the attractant in these cases) is that they can have absolute control over a helpless 9 or 10 year old that they can't have over another thinking, physically mature, independent adult.

The same desire propels militant fundamentalists (of whatever religious denomination) to keep women strictly controlled (so they will be as weak and subjected as children) and to make sure other people are forced to follow their rules.

110. lolly, you hit the nail on the head
I've been trying to get this across to people for a long time. Religious fundamentalism (christian or muslim) manifests the same pathology that's found in serial rapists, pedophiliacs, or despotic dictators.

Just as rape has little to do with sex, religious fundamentalism has little to do with religion. A pathological need to control a person or group is closer to the underlying reason for both. And serious problems occur when control can't be gained and the nutcase has to resort to more and more radical means to obtain that control. The Schiavo case is a perfect example of the radical religious right attempting ever more bizarre tactics to meet their goals.

Edited on Mon Mar-28-05 08:13 PM by bush_is_wacko
I know from becoming a fundie! I guess I'll just have to stay a non-practicing Catholic heathen! You are quite correct BTW, that is EXACTLY why I no longer practice the religion I grew up with! Nuns can teach children and help the afflicted, but they darn well better keep their mouths shut about the priests among them that are abusing little children in record numbers and STILL telling the Nuns to stay out of it. If the Nuns were in control those pedophiles would have been ferreted out years ago and condemned as the sickos they are. Those Nuns don't tolerate any nonsense whatsoever. I think most of them now a days could easily recognize the need to get rid of the weeds among them!

115. I think the key is "adult" women
I suspect most female fundies are either voluntarily or involuntarily kept in a state of childlike fear and dependence.

Although, from what I hear of former Catholic school students, plenty of nuns had power/control issues themselves.

I think the attraction of fundamentalism for these people is the emphasis on RULES. There are rules for everything, no exceptions to the rules, no questioning the rules, nothing that lies outside the rules; everything is subject to some rule.

Wasn't the BTK torturer, in addition to being a compliance enforcement freak, some sort of elder or deacon in his church?

The FL police know where he is, and his legal status is "Absconded from Registration." I don't know about FLorida, but in most states failure to register as a sex offender means a one-way ticket back to jail.

We MUST isolate sex offenders now
March 25, 2005 | Scythian

Posted on 03/25/2005 7:45:37 AM PST by Scythian

There is another Amber alert in Iowa, a 10 year old girl taken by a known sex offender. This is totally out of control people, Marth Stuart is wearing an ankle bracelet yet we expect sex offenders to voluntarily check in? America is failing to protect her young, children are dying horrible deaths, why doesn't the Lord just rain down calimity upon us, that is my prayer right now.

America, you are nothing if you do not protect your children, sex offenders recommit their crimes, we know it, they know, yet we let them free to work in our schools and stalk their prey. Lord, wake up the nation, rain fire down upon us.

President Bush can pass emergeny legislation to protect one live, and that not even the life of a child yet stands idol while evil stalks our nations children.

I actually agree with a freeper post about something. Oh no! But this bastard in Cedar Rapids is being charged today, I suppose with first degree murder and kidnapping, which if he is found guilty, means he will never get out. Both carry mandatory life sentences without the possibility of parole. The freeper is right though. bush is concerned about one woman in a vegetative state, and these freaks of nature are stalking the children of America and they go relatively unchecked. How did this happen? I agree with him or her. Well, it may be the first and last time that ever happens. At any rate, do something bush, you friggin' phony!

61. Just an update FYI...
I found his court records in Athens County, Ohio.

It's only a summary of proceedings in the case, but the original charges were two counts of rape and one count of kidnapping. Despite the fact that on another site, he claims to have been incarcerated for two years and on probation for four years, the record says otherwise.

The crime was committed around the end of September, 1992. He was arrested a day or two later, and arraigned not long after. There's no motion for bail, so apparently he was held in the Athens County jail awaiting trial. In early February, 2003, he pleaded guilty to amended charges before the case came to trial. Sentencing was filed the second week of March, 1993. In April, 1993, he was moved from Athens County to the Pickering Correctional Institute.

On May 10, 1993, his attorney filed a motion for "shock probation" (two or three months' "boot camp" followed by release on probation). He was moved to SEPTA two weeks later. Two years later, he paid $172.40 in restitution to the victim. The next entry is an order in 1996 for the Univ. of Ohio Campus Safety office to destroy all evidence in their possession, and he's released from probation June, 1997.

Don't know what the amended plea was, but for it, he spent a little over six months awaiting trial and sentencing, a little more than five or six weeks in prison and probably two to three months in the "shock probation" pre-release program.

I believe you need to register to see this

http://www.charlotte.com/mld/observer/news/11241595.htm

The father of the 10-year-old Kannapolis boy arrested Friday for trying to take a glass of water to Terri Schiavo said the religious beliefs that led him and his son to Florida took root in him more than a decade ago.

Specifically, he said, they came to him when he was 19, as he spent several months in an Ohio jail while awaiting trial on rape and kidnapping charges.

Howard Scott Heldreth, now 32, was in jail for parts of 1992 and 1993, court records show; he eventually pleaded guilty to sexual battery and served time on probation. Until jail, he said from his Kannapolis home Saturday, he believed strongly in evolution, especially the idea that the strong naturally ruled over the weak.

....

The former Naperville, Fla., resident remains listed on the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's sex offender registry, but he's not registered on North Carolina's; the N.C. equivalent applies to offenders convicted on or after Jan. 1, 1996.

78. It's interesting...
Edited on Sun Mar-27-05 10:07 PM by TwoSparkles
Perps commit sexual crimes because they get a thrill from exploiting and powering up on someone.

I find it interesting that a convicted rapist who is on more than one state sex-offender list--would also be exploiting his ten-year old child by forcing him to protest in such a way that would ensure arrest, handcuffing and being hauled off to juvenile hall.

Rapists view their victims as objects. They don't see them as human being with feelings and emotions. They lack empathy and seem oblivious to the pain and suffering they cause others.

This rapist is treating his child as an object--exploiting him to cull media attention--despite the child's feeling and the inherent exploitation of this act.

I think we can all see that Mr. Sex Offender still has no conscience. He's willing to sacrifice his own child for his own causes.

Who said, "I would rather see someone burn the flag and wrap themselves in the constitution than burn the constitution and wrap themselves in the flag."?
The Child-Rapers for Jesus is a huge group! There seems to be the same people who go from protest to protest, professional zealots. Terri's parents lost all of my respect when they called in those dogs. Now they won't leave until she's dead and some other mission is found. One wonders what great works they could do with all of that energy if they followed the teachings of Jesus? I think the basis for seperation of Church and State is the line, "Render unto Ceasar that which is Ceasar's and unto the Lord that which is the Lord's." Do these people even read that book they carry?

Isn't there a law in most states that a Registered Sex-offender can't be so many feet NEAR a child, even his own? And this is the Religious fundies and Repuks "base?" Oh, these are their have-not's base. Yeah, that's what it is.

This is seriously SICK! Wackos, Nut-Wingers! That's what we got running this country. They might as well write all over the flag, toss it on the ground, whatever. At this point, all I can say is "they got a lot of nerve!"

92. NC Christian Identity White Supremacist Hate Groups
Is Heldreth a member of one of these NC KKK Christian Identity groups? These groups are nationwide but Heldreth has NC ties.

There are numerous KKK factions under the Christian Identity movement, this article lists a few:

http://www.qrd.org/qrd/browse/north.carolina.hate.crimes.report

Christian Knights of the Ku Klux Klan

This group is still under the national leadership of North Carolina's Virgil Griffin. Although Griffin has had some medical problems, the group has continued to develop chapters from Charlotte to Wilson.

Because of the climate created when the Klan marches in communities, cities such as Wilmington, Salisbury, and Greensboro continue to look at creative alternatives for its citizens.

Invisible Empire Knights of the Ku Klux Klan

This KKK faction lost a major civil rights battle with the Southem Poverty Law Center. The group reportedly adopted a new name and assumed operations more or less underground. The Invisible Empire had the reputation of being the most violent Klan faction in the United States.

The Confederate Knights of America, National Socialist Front

This neo-Nazi group, led by Huntersville's Terry Boyce, has the potential of being the most deadly group in our state because of their ability to recruit young people. There are, however, some individuals who prescribe to white supremacust ideology and hide behind religion. Nord Davis, of the Northpoint Teams, publishes Christian Identity literature and a newsletter called "On Target".

In regards to the other groups we have here in North Carolina, such as the Populist Party, Kirk Lyons and CAUSE, and various factions of the Christian Identity movement, very little movement has been documented by NCARRV. That may be due to the "protective stance" many of this groups have taken since the February Wilson bank robbery. Whatever the reason, we do know that these groups and individuals continue to preach and distribute their message of hate and
ignorance to many North Carolinians.

94. Connecting dots is not so simple as we would like to believe
Lotsa Pubs are Closet Heathens/Pagans/Predators/Diabolical/Evil etc but can't COME OUT...gatta walk around acting Normal an shit.

This condition often leads to Suppression.

Good Suppression VS Bad Suppression::

200 series Bad Suppression leads to high pressure which often manifests in explosive results, like going postal or murder for sexual mastication.

100 Series of Bad Suppression explains the inability to cope despite cookies in hand and jar opened when the cops come through the door.

Repeat offenses result. Its this kind of Cancer that should be removed from Society in a Humane way..300 series shit.

Take the warts off, sooner the better.....OFF the predators...use Pepper Spray

it absolutely DID say "absconded from registration" yesterday..now it's been changed. I want an explanation? Did they lose track of this sex offender or were their files incorrect?
