The Schiavo protesters: This is truly sad...
An article in today's New York Daily News on the protesters outside Terri Schiavo's Hospice includes this:

Tracy Anderson wheeled her 47-year-old severely brain-damaged sister, Kristen, into the protester enclosure. The woman, whose brain was ravaged by encephalitis in 1976, can only groan and her limbs have curled and atrophied.

"She doesn't talk, but God gives her a voice. She wanted to come visit Terri. I could tell that's what she wanted," Tracy Anderson said.

I have the greatest respect for those who voice their heartfelt opinions on controversial issues, whether I agree with them or not. But, involving others who are unable to decide on their own, whether by age or mental state, as "props" for all intents and purposes is a horrendous activity.

Through this whole circus I kept thinking about the mother in the basement.

It's weird.

There's something about people trying to implant some kind of personality into someone else. Very odd.

23. Not that strange, really when you think about this crowd.
They've been trying to give Jesus Christ a personality He never had for the last 25 years. (That of a right wing hatemonger)

6. I wonder if a stipulation to that effect...
...in a living will would stand up in court. Assuming, of course, that the repugs haven't dismantled the whole judicial branch by the time mine would be in force.

12. Really
I have a bit of a problem with the talk going around now that we all should have living wills. As a matter of prudence that has always been the case, and they were generally thought to be necessary just to avoid family squabbles, not as a necessary tool of litigation.

However, now it seems that we should have one to 1.) Protect ourselves from the government, and 2.) I have to wonder how effective they might be under a government who thinks they can just ignore anything that does not comport with the will of the majority, no matter how fanatical they may be.

5. What a dumb cow...listen, if God gave her a voice, you can bet your
ass you would be able to understand it. If God is talking through someone, it won't be a whimper, but more like somebody racking a shotgun.

7. The media uses people for props all the time
Books people consider to be holy are the most commonly used props out there. Terri has been used as a prop by the sleaziest of them all.

8. political puppets
that is how neocons consider the electorate. we are all the terri schaivos who are silenced by the crass rhetoric (trumpeted by the media) of this administration. Wag-the-dog as in the media controls public opinion. Good news is Rove made a bad call in this situation. He must have thought T.S. would be Jesus who resurrected on Easter.

10. Another person "who just knows" what other people want.........
without any input from them. Sort of like a certain pResident I know. He never exposes himself to people (other than hand picked bushbots) but is SURE he speaks for ALL Americans and knows exactly what they want to do.
Maybe they should go into the psychic hotline business.

11. I don't know...
I brought my 11 year old niece to the inauguration protest, and even though she was clearly old enough to understand what we were protesting, many other protesters brought much younger children. I had no problem with that... in fact, I think it's positive when people raise their kids to be involved from a very early age. I agree that bringing a woman who is brain damaged to be used as a prop is pretty sick, but I think children are a different story. They will one day have an understanding for their involvement.

14. As long as you don't tell your kids to break the law
while protesting, which some of these people obviously have.

22. I make a distinction
between bringing children to an event to be exposed to the messages, as opposed to encouraging/obliging them to protest.

13. I saw something this morning that a group calling themselves
"Not Dead Yet", made up of disable people are sitting outside the hospice. Apparently, they have gotten the idea that any disabled person is now open to death, ready or not.

15. the Schindlers should be charged with something for creating
that phony video that gives the impression Terri is merely "disabled."
I consider them the lowest form of life: con artists with no conscience, exploiting their brain-damaged daughter for publicity and fast bucks like a sideshow freak.

18. If she WAS merely disabled.............
they should be able to take her home and care for her. They tried it. They didn't last long. They agreed then that she needed 24/7 care in a hospital. So I guess that rules out the "merely diabled" meme.

17. Of course we're coming for them next....................
at least that's what the fundies are telling them. Fear. Hey, it works for the bush administration all the time, the fundies can use it to their advantage as well. Get everyone worked up to a froth telling them that Judges and Liberals want to kill everybody that doesn't fit the "normal" mold.
The thing is, all of the advantages disable people enjoy, all of the programs and accessibility were the efforts of we blood thirsty Liberals. :scared: Yeah, we're a blood thirsty bunch, and we're coming for YOU!

19. Guilty feelings about keeping a loved one alive?
Sounds like it. They "just know"? Sure. According to all major polls, the average American does not want to live when there is no quality of life. Yet, some of these right-wing nuts impose their will and beliefs on their innocent and helpless loved ones.

I wonder once again why these nuts think allowing such loved ones to die in peace and dignity is so wrong. Especially when they believe God will make their loved ones whole again.

24. Social services should look into that woman's life and take that
boy away from that sex offender father. He looks very depressed, that boy in the photo in another thread. Imagine what his life is like.
