MAY 2: MISSION NOT ACCOMPLISHED
Dear DUers:

It's been two years since pResident Bush disrespected the uniform and used an aircraft carrier to pronounce "Mission Accomplished".

We all know how hollow that pronouncement was.

Please join our effort to protest needless deaths in Iraq; the needless deaths of our service people; the needless domestic budget cuts to inflate the Pentagon's shopping spree.

Read what Will Pitt has to say:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x3366166

Read what like minds suggest:

http://www.missionnotaccomplished.us

Please join us in the Activism forum. Let's shut it down on May 2. Just this morning, Wolf Blitzer repeated the lie that Falluja is the safest city in Iraq.

A city that has been demolished and contaminated with illegal weapons is not safe. It's dead.

Please join us in the Activism forum. We need your help and your ideas. Let's do it -- for our people who've given their lives, for the women of Afghanistan and Iraq who are afraid to leave their homes, for the wellbeing of our country that is bleeding money into a defense budget that is never accountable - while our people go jobless, homeless, suffer for lack of health care.

Join us on May 2. The "mission" was not accomplished. And we, as citizens of this great nation, need to stand up and be counted, now.

peace.

Beth

9. Now that is "creative" and "fun" and let us hope so many, many....
....of our fellow citizens will find interesting, productive and thoughtful ways to relax together, reflect on our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution, and remember all those who have suffered, willingly!!, to provide us the opportunity to ensure that future generations are able to nurture freedom.

Thank you.

2. May 3 - Great Republican leader loses face
Hi folks,
I posted the message below on DU right after the infamous "Mission Accomplished" stunt. Thought you might find it to be of interest.

----------------------------

The Old Man of the Mountain loses face

May 3, 2003 -- high up on the flank of Cannon Mountain in Franconia Notch, NH -- the Old Man of the Mountain lost his face - literally - the day after G.W. Bush pulled his public relations stunt on the aircraft carrier Abe Lincoln ("Mission Accomplished") off the coast of San Diego, CA.

I was struck by the sequence of events. Bush prances on Abe Lincoln deck, the noble Old Man loses face immediately thereafter on the far side of the continent. What's that all about?

Bush Prances Carrier Deck in Flight Suit - May 2, 2003

Old Man story - May 3, 2003:
http://gonewengland.about.com/cs/nhhistory/l/bloldmanof...

For NH -- and for all who had ever seen him -- the collapse of the granite face was a First Class tragedy -- for the Old Man was a symbol of honesty, dignity, and honor -- and he seemed eternal.

I always thought of the Old Man's profile as embodying the same qualities as Old "Honest Abe" Lincoln, whose profile is so familiar to us from the penny. So I was deeply saddened to see him "lose face," and could not help but note that it came right after Bush pulled his PR stunt on the deck of our nation's Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier.

After presenting false reasons for war to America, to our soldiers and to the world, what right did Bush, who has a shameful military service record himself, have to celebrate himself and "Declare Victory"? Hundreds of our soldiers have died and been wounded since that day, not to mention the ongoing misery for their families at home and the families in Iraq.

(end)

12. KICK!
:kick: because even on the day that he declared this, it was FAR from over. I felt sorry for all those servicemen on that carrier that were told they had to smile and cheer - they were probably threatened with a dishonorable discharge and imprisonment if they didn't.

What a loser!
