If Kerry were president and vetoed the Schiavo legislation...

...what would happen?

For that matter, this applies to ANY democratic president. If s/he had vetoed this Schiavo legislation, what do you think the effect would have been? Would the Dem president looked like a voice of sanity, or would the RW have spun it to say "the president was a murderer" and cause bad repercussions for the Dems?

I ask b/c I know that many Democrats feel that the best strategy for Democrats was to lay low and let Republicans self-destruct. If we controlled a brance of govt., however, that wouldn't have been possible. Any thoughts?

Kerry would look like Abe Lincoln to 80+% of the populace, and maybe even win over the hearts of some of the libertarian righties. The lib right has to be choking on their own puke over this one.

5. I suspect the renegade religious fanatics in the congress wouldn't have

attempted the manuever without bush's brain in command anyway, so I'm not sure we can even think Kerry would have been required to deal with this particular family matter to begin with.

No matter. I mostly agree with you, but I'm wondering if the Republicans wouldn't have attempted to do SOMETHING regarding Schiavo, if only to fire up their base.

7. Kerry would have bitch-slapped DeLay before this could happen

When DeLay tried with disbanding the Ethics Committee (which he succeeded with with Chimpy), he would have had a different resounding protest if Kerry was President.

DeLay would have been pounced on like a lion stomps out a crippled gazelle.
