Jesse Jackson -- What the hell is he doing???
Edited on Tue Mar-29-05 01:29 PM by Cyrano
Jackson has jumped into the Terri Schiavo tragedy by showing up at the hospice to "comfort and stand with the parents."

Does he really need to be in front of a camera that badly? WTF is he up to? If he really cared that much about Terri Schiavo, where was he for the past 15 years? And if he doesn't care that much, he's just an opportunistic piece of crap.

Outside of these two explanations, I have no idea in the world why he has shown up in Florida, or what he wants. But either way, there's no way this man will ever again earn or deserve my respect. I believe he's just a cynical opportunist, or one of the biggest asshats that ever lived.

1. It will be interesting to see...
...if he decides to comfort and stand with Michael Schiavo as well.

2. He's doing the only thing he does well---getting publicity for himself.

5. And probably getting his church on the "donor list"
There are a lot of people ready to open up their wallets for this issue.

I'm sure that most Americans be they
liberal, conservative, moderate, or apolotical would agree.

While I respect him for many things, I know he's a media whore!

3. After what he did for the election cause...
...he can do whatever he wants on the Schiavo case.

God bless the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

4. I posted this in the other thread ...
Hopefully, having seen her and spoken with her doctors, he now realizes that SHE WILL NOT RECOVER and will help the Schindler's 'move on'.

One does not heal from NOT HAVING A CEREBRAL CORTEX.

He needs to get over his long-standing case of spotlight addiction.

6. This issue transcends political labels.
The difference is, Jackson is not using this case to score political points...if anything, he's losing ground with his base. But I respect anyone who is motivated by their particular beliefs regarding the sanctity of life. I can disagree, but respect that. It's the flaming hypocrites that I have a problem with.

7. It could work to our advantage.
He is seeing all these life advocates that feel disenfranchised by the bush boys, and he is hooking them, showing the left has a point to relate to also.

10. Let him follow his conscience.
We may not agree with him, but he has a right to think what he thinks, and even to be wrong. Just because we disagree with someone on one thing doesn't mean we have to condemn them with regard to everything.

Besides, each of us has an opinion on the Schiavo matter, but no one knows enough about the human mind, death and the spiritual nature of life to be absolutely certain that it was morally right to disconnect her from the feeding tube. It was legally correct, but not necessarily right morally. We have reason to believe that in her vegetative state she does not have any perception of the world and is not "alive" in any meaningful sense, but we don't know that.

Doctors have been wrong before. Think about the common use of leaches a couple of centuries ago. The science of the brain is not perfect. I think Jesse Jackson is in his rights at this point.

12. It seems that Jackson's "conscience" came alive at the eleventh hour.
Edited on Tue Mar-29-05 01:42 PM by Cyrano
I wonder if it has anything to do with the mailing lists the parents are planning on passing out.

Sorry, but those of you who have posted in defense of Jackson need to wonder why it took him so long to make an appearance if this is that important to him.

I, for one, believe he's as big a hypocrite as Randall Terry.

15. Reverend Jackson certainly has a right to his opinion
but so does everyone else. And I have not really given a damn about Jesse Jackson since he went to Decatur, IL in defense of the criminals who rightfully got expelled from a school there.
Jackson is a reverend and he seems to be following his faith, but it is too little, too late. This just appears to be another publicity grab by Jackson, who seems to love the spotlight. I will not condemn him for acting on his faith, there are plenty of other things to get on him about.

13. Jesse's demanding that the feeding tube be re-inserted.
When did he ever say anything about this issue before? Will Jesse Jackson, like Jerry Brown, find a second career as a stooge for Fox News, and the rest of their ilk. They certainly love Jesse today, giving him lots of positive coverage. Does he have a book coming out soon? And all this a day after the right wing media was bashing him for talking with, and supporting Michael Jackson on his radio show. :eyes:

16. shortly after the tube was removed on 3/18 I saw Jackson on TV
speaking against it. The parents invited him; he went. If the parents had not invited him, then maybe call it grandstanding.
