When is a Carrot a Watermelon? Ask Bush....
If he says so... it's a watermelon....and the media swear to it.

4. Excellent article!!
I really liked this: (Emphasis mine)

snip...

Capitalism is fine. Unrestricted capitalism is tyranny. When corporations seek profits with absolutely no concern for the rights and the needs of the people, democracy dies.

5. I have a problem reading anything that begins with a fallacy.
"If George W. Bush were to hold up a carrot and call it a watermelon, the American news media would immediately begin calling carrots watermelons. That’s an undeniable fact."

No, it isn't. It's a joke used to illustrate an otherwise good point--that the media has a discusting tendency to repeat whatever the Bushies say. But in the form that it was presented, it's hyperbole.

It just isn't undeniable. I'm denying it right now, and it's a valid denial. It isn't even a fact, it's a presumption. Easy to tell the different between facts and presumptions, I hope.

I know I'm picking nits, but that opening ruined the article for me. I became suspicious of everything written from that point forward.

7. yes, you're nit picking.. and amore
You're exhibiting a very closed mind. You take creative work literally.....and allow for no interpretation. Childish.

I suppose that you gain something credible by dismissing the entire article so arrogantly. Even more childish.

Supposing the treatise for some really credible discovery - such as a cancer cure - were introduced by an exaggerted example to make a point....you'd probably throw out the entire treatise.

I surely hope you're not an English teacher..

8. The topic demands a better treatment.
Call me childish if you want, I'm not going to cry. Call me arrogant, even. My eyes are still free of tears.

I hope that when cancer is cured, whoever writes it up for the medical journals leaves out the hyperbole. It won't be taken seriously.

Exaggeration can be used for effect, but there are limits. The author of the piece in question over did it.

Besides, it's all a non-issue. I admitted I was nit-picking. For you to come along and chastise me for nitpicking is tedious and boorish.

So nyah. :)

9. yeah, right....
but I'm not here to argue.... It seems you're refusing to deal with the content of the article...and have appointed yourself literary critic.
Let it go. This is political forum, not a classroom.

So what, I have a complaint about style. Big deal. You act as if I were handing you an insult.

If this is the way you take criticism of those you support, then I'd guess that you have a very thin skin regarding personal criticisms.

If I had know that, I would not have commented. I'm sorry if I insulted you, ok?

content of the article.... I am a devote.. "ITS THE PROPAGANDA" .. crier... I have been burning DVDs at home for months now.. various documentaries and passing them out to my sleeping dem friends. Trying to get them to see how the lies are not just in the crazy right wing heads.. but in the sensable dems too.. they had a lie package for us too... fake wars, rigged elections... big lies!

14. I agree. The theme is great, but that one line bugged me.
Like a black fly in your Chardonnay - ulp. WAIT!

I'm channeling Alanis Morissette again. Back on the anti-non-ironic meds.

15. problem also is...
that dems themselves are ignoring the propaganda issue and not demanding equal time on the airways. When there is an Iraq issue, Lieberman is brought on as the spokesperson for the 'balanced' view. And I'm not talking about FOX news....but CNN and MSNBC. There's no place to turn for most people and when they watch tv they rarely see an explanation of what's being pulled over their eyes.
