Did Bush really distance himself from the Schiavo vote?

Bush <> Makes grand gesture flying to D.C. for Terri, then distances himself when poll numbers go the other way. Slick.

1. I think he did
ESPECIALLY when he saw the numbers drop. He realized he had stepped in a pile of do-do and didn't want that pile to become a mountain. I believe he also advised bro Jeb not to overstep his bounds either, which may have backfired on him.
