The RW are claiming the Pope and trying to spin this their way. The Pope was partly liberal at least on war and social programs. I don't like that they are using his death to promote themselves! We need some Dems other than Jackson out there with statements. They will use this against us. We will lose the advantage we just gained. And the Pope has a nine day funeral. We should fill it with Catholic Dems! They had Reagan, we should get the Pope. We are losing the PR war again!

3. Huh? Are you really blaming Clinton???
If you're that concerned, remind everyone you can that bush told the Pope to go fuck himself, and blew up tens of thousands of Iraqis anyway.

5. Hee! hee! No, I think we should grab the limelight!
There are Waaay more Catholic Dems politicos then there are fundies! Kerry, Leahy, Kennedy, Vilsak, Harkin. I could continue but you get the point. The fundies are stealing the Popes funeral! I say steal it back!

6. I don't think it should be politicized.
OTOH, bush and co. will probably try to do exactly that, and you know what happens when they take the low road, and the dems take the high road.

The bad guys win.

Dilemma!

7. there are 1.1 billion catholics--
the far left, far right, and everything in between is represented by the RC church.

I do not think we can "claim" the pope as a democrat anymore than they can "claim" the pope as a republican.

And remember there are also plenty of people on both sides of the political aisle who NOT Catholic and will be turned off if we try to "claim" the pope.

8. Our Catholic politicians need to be up front and present or we look dismiss
I can remember when our Catholic politicians always commented in situations such as this! it would be assumed that they attend the funeral as well! Who should react to this situation more than a Catholic? Kerry, Kucinich( and Dennis is even Polish!), Kennedy and Leahy as well as Harkin and Vilsak are all Catholic. They have the right , as Catholics, to grieve for the Pope. Nancy Reagan has NO place in this! If she gets to be front and center, so does Clinton. He met the Pope as well.
We have been saying that Democrats are church going too, and are also religious. This is the opportunity to show it!

10. The Pope said the war in Iraq was unjust and evil.
Just throw that in their face at every opportunity.
