Giuliani asked to repay S.C. fee

Lawmaker calls on him to return $80,000 earned speaking at tsunami fund-raiser here

By AARON GOULD SHEININ
Staff Writer

The head of a powerful House budget panel has called on Rudy Giuliani to return $80,000 he was paid by the S.C. Hospital Association to speak at its tsunami relief fund-raiser here in February.

Rep. Tracy Edge ,R-Horry, chairman of the health and human services budget subcommittee, said he was “disappointed” to learn the former New York City mayor had charged the association $100,000 to speak.
( even his own party is grossed-out by his hypocrisy!)

Giuliani donated $20,000 of his fee to the hospitals’ tsunami fund, twice the amount recommended, hospital association officials said.

“What makes this most offensive is the fact that the occasion was widely publicized as a charitable event,” Edge said. “Nowhere was it disclosed that Mayor Giuliani was being paid for his appearance.”
(schnipp)

Kirby said the event raised $60,000 for the Red Cross, which includes the $20,000 from Giuliani.
(less the 80k fee he kept means.....hmm....)

(snippy)

“Frankly, his service in New York makes it even more troubling that he would ask for money to appear at an event designed to benefit the victims of one of the greatest human disasters in recorded history.”
(snib)
“I can attest to the fact that funding for our hospitals and health service is becoming a serious challenge,” Edge said. “Knowing just how scarce health care funds are, it truly saddens me to see this type of profiteering in raising funds for a cause as important as tsunami relief.”

1. Conservative "Speakers" have no problem charging $ for Charity events..
in my experience.

I was part of a Charity Fundraising event where a Rightwing Christian
speaker charged $10,000 for a 45 minute blather.
