This is vintage Howard Dean, and he speaks his mind. It is a local DC interview. His first there since becoming chair. The problem is that the sync is off in his portion of the interview....so you have to just not watch the mouth movements. It is about 12 minutes long....here is your outspoken.

What I heard clearly was that he felt many in his own party were not understanding what he was saying about social issues. He seems to be paying attention to our concerns, especially as concerns womens' rights.

1. The interviewer
Asked all the usual questions using the Republican frame - just as they all do. Every single last one of the corporate media asks their questions in the Foxspeak tone.

Dean kicks ass, as usual.

2. You noticed that. She was really using rightwing frames.
Boy, did he go after her when she said that young people liked that personal accounts. He jumped right in there.

3. That may be true, but Howard did a great job with the answers!
I have a lot of confidence in Howard. He's quick with the right answers, and because he is also an MD, I think he has a great comeback to Frist's inability to diagnose a patient via video tape!

I loved his description of Tom DeLay..."Ethicly Challenged! HA HA HA

7. Oh, was she the interviewer?
Well, he countered her efforts beautifully. He really called he on the Social Security thing.

10. damn, my Mac WMPlayer won't let me advance it and I'm sick of
listening to the Schiavo etc. discussion. Wish it weren't 12 minutes in. I'll have to catch Dr. Dean next time.

11. I don't have a mac and it won't let me fast forward either
but actually Drinan got really, really good in the first interview and Dean was outstanding. He just cut Mrs. Tweets off on one question. She asked some real repub talking point molded questions and one he just cut her off before she got too deep in the theopod goo.

She said that young people just loved the idea of privatizing SS.

heh Dean wouldn't have any of it. Really worth the wait.

13. Yes, she was really theologizing (is that a word?) in the first part.
Very obvious. He did set her straight.

12. I can't advance either....must be the station video.
Save a link to it, it is well worth it. The first part of the interview was not bad, but she kept trying to put words in their mouths.

I have never seen a video I could not advance.

5. Dean and Women's Issues
Dean would suprise the hell out of me on women's issues. It wasn't that he made such a big deal about them (other than abortion and the like), but rather that comments would come rolling off his tongue that made me KNOW that he is a feminist through and through. There's no mere lip service to women's issues, it's not somethig he has to think about, or remind himself to cover -- in fact he didn't cover these things nearly enough, but when he did, when they came up in questions or at other times, he simply IS a femimist. Period.

Blew me away, repeatedly. And of course, his comments were always delivered in that matter-of-fact, "this is the way it is and so there's really no argument about it or need to discuss it further" characteristic way that I love so much.

6. In this interview did you hear what he said?
That people in his own party weren't understanding what he was saying about the social issues. I felt kind of bad, because I have had a hard time with the party leaders chosing candidates who were not for choice. I know why they are doing it, but there is too much at stake.

He was the old Howard in this interview. It was good to see him on TV again tonight on C-Span,too.

Did you catch who his old friend was that asked about the yell on CpSpan? Did Dean say he was with Johnson's administration? I thought so.
