Sane Republicans, do you like your party now? Can you take it back?
Trade deficits, budget deficits, war, the potential loss of social security, the eroding of individual rights, the shrinking of the middle class and the increasing numbers of the barely making it, have been fostered by your party. The moderates of both parties used to get the work of our country done. But, not any more. The work goes begging..and growing.

Is this even your party anymore? Democrats are experiencing their usual disorganization. The Democratic Party is still the party Will Rogers referred to as his. We are for the security, prosperity, and welfare of the common man, of everyman, not just the prosperous, the hypocritically pious. And we know that repeatedly cutting taxes leads to one end, the end of the government created by our Constitution We know that eroding public services will hurt business, the economy, and the general welfare of the American people. We know that changing important elements of the Constitution leads to loss of freedom and the growth of authoritarianism.

But what is your plan? Was your party stolen, even high jacked, as some might say? How did the far left of the 40's veer suddenly to the right and gain control of the party of small government and once opposed to American imperialism? How did people like the Kristols and the Podhoretz's come to so influence your party? Do you think your party is now on the correct course? Do you know the current course of your party?

If you believe in your party of today, who convinced you that the Constitution is a bogus document, that it shouldn't support individual rights and actively promote a bi-partisan government and the rule of law? Why do you believe your party free of the faults of human nature and the only one with the correct vision of America's future?

I believe those of you of conscience and integrity do not support what is happening today.

1. Most true Republicans I know
didn't even vote for Bush in '04 as they saw him as very dangerous-to the Republican Party. Now if they can only be convinced to try and do something about it.....

5. I'm down here in Texas
where the far-right wing of the Republican party has taken almost total control. However, there is some cause for hope, I think. My brother and son, both Republicans still, were so ashamed of their party that they voted for Kerry. Also, Travis County (Austin), had gone Republican for two election cycles, but reversed the trend this election and became a blue county again in a sea of red. I certainly hope that moderates win control of the Republican Party and if they cannot do so, I hope they will become "Born Again" Democrats (down here in Texas almost everyone used to be Democrats).

6. I'm going to go around saying this all week.

I'm going to use the voice of the cell-phone commercials guy: "Do you like your party now?"

Actually, I don't have much cause to slag on SANE Republicans--a lot of them in my neck of the woods totally came around (some of them from the most conservative areas of our state) and actually worked to support Kerry. It was the only time in my life I've appreciated Reaganites because most of the G.O.P. and ex-G.O.P helping us were Reagan fans. It was through their respect for things such as the idea that fiscal conservatism is a good idea and moral values, like, you know, HONESTY, are things people should really stick to if they're going to have them at all, that brought these folks to our side. Number one and two reasons given for abandoning support for Bush: a) Given that there were no WMDs, the war in Iraq no longer makes any sense from a moral or national security-based standpoint and b) this deficit is OUT of CONTROL. This is not to say that Reagan was a champion of actual fiscal conservatism or honesty, just that many ordinary citizens who voted for him embraced these ideals. So, I've got faith the G.O.P. CAN be taken back by those who know this direction is too extreme, even for them.

7. Well ladies ( and gentlemen), perhaps it's time to clean house.
Let's get our brooms and sweep these quite "tres faux" Republicans out the door. Other wise this infestation will, most certainly, bring our very real American house down.

So,... Republicans...where do you really stand?
