Heads up - NPR Morning Edition covers OPUS DEI today >
Sorry I can't give much of a summary - some general reporting re: the cannonization of Escriva by the Pope, some of the practices, an Opus Dei college. No mention of Scalia, that I heard. Aired at around 20 minutes past the hour, 8:20 here.

1. I missed the beginning
but it surprised me that they even touched that topic. It wasn't a bad report but it brushed by the kinky stuff and no, I did not hear any mention of any famous US members.

2. Right -
They did cover the working class women pressed into servitude to clean the house and made to confess their every thought. But nothing about self-flagellation, etc.

4. I don't think the self flagellation is a biggie
It seems optional. However, using women as maids so the precious men don't have to clean up after themselves tells me where that bunch is at.

5. well the thought of a Supreme Court Justice flogging himself -
and wearing spiked chains under his clothing, is a little creepy.

8. They did mention
the spiked chains but it was glossed over very quickly.

3. My RW brother-in-law was talking about Opus Dei, saying how scary they
were. He was unaware that Scalia is a member. FOX News has never reported on it, I guess.

6. This is what bothers me about John Paul II
Along with the push for canonization of Pius XII (who was pope during world war 2), the ruthless shutting of the doors opened by John XIII in Vatican 2 and the peculiar blame American society combined with the protect the corporation response to the abuse scandals paint a different picture than the kindly holy man we see on the cover of the magazines.
And John Law's sudden visibility leaves me troubled. I'm not sure what I feel upon this man's death.

7. I'll tell you how I feel
pissed off. He resided over one of the most corrupt institutions on earth and did everything he could to maintain the status quo. Don't let the sweet smile fool you.

However, the self-flaggelation and the spiked garter thing are optional for now.
