Bill Frist's "nuclear option." And Senator Bill Nelson of Florida.
Edited on Fri Apr-08-05 12:34 PM by Cyrano
I live in Florida, and I have called Bill Nelson's office in Washington (202-224-5274) and let them know that if Nelson votes for the fascist Rethug "nuclear option," he won't get my vote next year.

For those of you who don't know what the "nuclear option" is, it's a plan to prevent 59% of the Senate from approving a presidential appointment (in this case, judges to the federal and Supreme courts). They want to make it so that 51 senators are enough for confirmation.

Nelson is a Florida Dem who caves on many issues because the northern half of the state (bordering Georgia, and Alabama) is redneck country. And many believe that if you want to win a statewide vote, you have to kiss KKK/wingnut/religious-right ass.

I let them know in no uncertain terms, that I will go door-to-door to ask everyone to vote for anyone who runs against Nelson in the primaries, or, if there's no challenger, to stay home on election day.

Does this mean the Republicans will win another seat? Perhaps. But I'm sick of voting for Republican lite.

Oh, by the way, our other Senator is Mel Martinez, the Republican piece of shit who circulated the "talking points" in the senate regarding Terri Schiavo. His Washington phone number is 202-224-3041. Not that he'll give a shit about anything we have to say, until the Republican party has been universally discredited as the fascist scum they are.

(Edited for incorrect Senate percentage.)

1. My Senators are Dole and Burr - both repubs
They are about useless. Dole is way far up *'s ass 99% of the time.

I know Bill's mom, brother, sister and nephew. They are nice folks. I have a picture of his mom and my little boy. She is an extremely nice woman.

Bill is a DINO of the worst kind, IMHO.

I appreciate your spunk. We need to remind those who have a "D" next to their names that the are not "R", else they will be "U" (unemployed).

p.s. Make sure Nelson, Nelson, Biden, Clinton, Feinstein, Lieberman & all the other DINO's are aware of Leader Reid's pledge: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=1710708&mesg_id=1710708

3. I called Nelson today.
Got a no response response. I asked how in the world he could still be undecided on this issue. The aide said he is waiting to see if it really comes up... I said And..if it comes up then what. The aide said he was pretty sure he would vote against it.

That sounded too indefinite to me.

4. The problem is there is no mention of the filibuster in the Constitution.
It's just a long standing Senate rule. If they want to push it through there is little we can do to stop them, except that when we get back in the majority, which I hope is soon, then we can use it on them too.
