The GOP screwed up and sent me a Republican Party Census Document!
I'm not sure why, exactly, I've never voted anything other than Democrat. Except for 2000 Georgia Primary, when Al Gore was well ahead of Bill Bradley, so I decided to Vote for John McCain (to vote against *).

Funny thing is, it says, "...Your answers will be used to develop a BLUEPRINT for the Republican Party for the next 10 years..."

"...Because it is cost prohibitive for the Republican Party to print and mail an official REPUBLICAN PARTY CENSUS to each and every one of the 55,000,000 Republicans nationwide..." "...your answers will represent the views and opinions of all Republican voters living in your voting district..."

Boy did they screw up sending this to me. If something like this got into the hands of a Democratic Actavist, it could really screw things up, Huh? The things numbered with a registration number, but, anyone know where I should send this to, so those who want to, can see this, or whatever?

Below is the first of 4 pages from the letter that came with it (it's OCR not a scan), I could scan the rest of the letter if folks are interested. I X-ed the reg numbers, just in case some GOP trolls are around

Dear Fellow Republican,

You are among a select group of Republicans who have been chosen to
take part in the official CENSUS OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.

Enclosed is your new GOP CENSUS DOCUMENT which was assigned and
prepared especially for you as a representative of all Republicans living
in your voting district.

Registration #: XXXX-XXXX
Voting District Code: IDXX-XX

Your answers will be used to develop a BLUEPRINT for the Republican
Party for the next 10 years.

The 2000, 2002 and 2004 elections have all shown how critical it is
America to get them involved.

Because it is cost prohibitive for the Republican Party to print and
mail an official REPUBLICAN PARTY CENSUS to each and every one of the
55,000,000 Republicans nationwide ...

. . . your answers will represent the views and opinions of all
Republican voters living in your voting district.

So even if you are undecided about some questions, please complete
your new GOP CENSUS DOCUMENT and return it to me in the next 7 days to
ensure we get ample and accurate results.

Should we continue developing a missile defense system that would
protect our nation against nuclear missiles?

Should the inheritance or "death" tax be permanently repealed? And
do you support President Bush's pro-growth policies to create more jobs
and improve the economy?

Should we allow religious and charitable groups to do more to reduce
poverty so those in need get the direct help necessary to get back on
track? Or should the government be able to continue discriminating
against faith-based organizations?

Do you favor balancing the federal budget by cutting wasteful

Over, please . . .

3. It says on the back of the Census that I can "join the RNC for...
...as little as $25.00 or I can just send them $11.00 to cover the cost of tabulating my survey.

I don't see a box that says, No, I'm not contributing at this time, just tabulate my survey.

They even will take contributions by Visa, Master Card, American Express, and Discover Card!:silly: :woohoo:

10. It reads like propaganda to me. If you read the thing you realize that
there is massive discrimination against the religious based groups who just want to help (except if they don't teach religion and follow professional guidelines for outreach.. in which case they can be a non-profit like any other). They also get tax deductions for the religious teachings they do with outreach. They just cannot get government funding for time spent converting souls to their particular religion.

I think you have been targeted for destruction (your democratic voting record is shaky). So they will bombard you with propaganda & tell you at the same time that you really are the one 'on top' since this document is a very powerful & precious one to republicans. Meanwhile they get you to keep it in your hot little hands.

I see the genius of direct marketing in this. They know that the longer you do not throw the thing out..the more likely you will be to "buy". They have millions like you. And a few will be flipped by their words with one letter.. but then another letter will come and tell you a little bit more about how your assumptions about discrimination have been wrong all along and where it really is: and from the use of that word 'discrimination'..we know the letter is not directed at the Republican masses at large because some of them like 'discrimination'.

Very slowly drop the item to the ground. Gently take a few steps back. Call Rover over and tell him to go poo. Throw it out.

Then file a complaint with the direct mail authorities about the nuisance mail. Remember - every single time they send something to your home.. you call the nuisance mail people and file a complaint and ask to be taken off their database. Every single time.

IMHO

I'm a European-American (Irish/French/German) i.e. "White" and I live in a neighborhood that probably 60% African-American, 35% "White", 5% Hispanic, so they, most likely, think I'm "Black" because I don't like in an "All-White" neighborhood.

33. Yup - sometimes it is obvious from the assumptions they make who
they are deep down inside. So they assumed you were African American and used the word 'discrimination' to try and flip you and get you to vote your AA self against your own best interests. Or something. Who cares. Stand back from the letter and call someone and complain.

I once got into a debate with some freeper. And he told me I probably lived in a trailer. And I said that sounded great and that I liked everyone I had every met who lived in a trailer - that they were all good eggs. And that I would not mind having one some day.

That really threw him for a loop - like totally outside his frame of reference. And here he was a Republican 'operative' of sorts. Hating his own dam plurality. And not understanding why I would not judge things the same way he did.

Sometimes they Repukes are way obvious. Sometimes..like with this letter to you..they are sneaky as hell. I say - call your local direct marketing regulator and ask to be taken off their list & complain.

17. Here's Page 2, this is where the slander begins.
One thing to notice is that, when ever they refer to Democrats (or any group that opposes their agenda) they ALWAYS preface them with disparaging or insulting words, phases, or labels (or at least, words they are trying to hijack and make people think it are a negative label). Also, all under lines are the GOP's not mine. This is a OCR scan, so if you see some odd or out of place word, let me know.

Page two

government spending?

Do you support the law, passed by the Republican Congress and signed
by President Bush, that bans partial-birth abortion?

Make no mistake -- without your answers to the REPUBLICAN PARTY
CENSUS DOCUMENT
questions . . .

. . . our leadership will not know how you and other Republicans at
the grassroots level of our Party feel about the critical issues
facing
our nation.

The Republican National Committee will be unable to develop a
BLUEPRINT that will truly energize and unify our Party.

Without your answers, the RNC cannot fully create a campaign plan to
organize and mobilize Republicans at the grassroots level of our Party.
Most importantly, without your answers we will be unable to help
President Bush win passage of his reform agenda in Congress.

Remember, the RNC is the only Republican Committee responsible for
both the campaign strategy to maintain and expand our majorities in the
House and Senate during the 2006 mid-term elections and for helping enact
the President/s agenda.

Our margins are razor-thin. Liberal Democrats in the U.S. Senate
can still kill almost any legislation that President Bush proposes and
they can stop his appointment of judicial nominees. So real reform
depends on maintaining and expanding our Republican majorities in the
House and the Senate, not just now, but over the next 10 years
.

And that starts with including Republicans like you in formulating
our BLUEPRINT, then identifying, educating and turning-out Republicans
on Election Day.

The last three national elections have been extremely close. In
2002, we came within a few thousand votes of losing the House and Senate
to the Democrats and liberal special interests.

And I don't need to tell you how critical the get-out-the-vote
effort was to our Party in 2004, when President George W. Bush won re-
election by just 3%.

New Hampshire was decided by just 9,171 votes; Wisconsin by 11,813
votes and Pennsylvania by 128,869 votes out of 5,676,212 votes cast in the
keystone state. In fact, if 60,000 votes had gone the other way in Ohio
in 2004 . . . John Kerry would be President today.

That's why your REPUBLICAN PARTY CENSUS DOCUMENT is so important.

Next page, please . . .

21. Page 3, here come the insults and the term "the radical liberals"
Note: any Italics or color, I added, the Underlines and Boldface are the RNC's.

Also, it looks to me like, they carefully considered every carriage return (Enter, for all you who have never used a typewriter) and used the Courier font, to make it look more like a typewriter, and not some "Fancy shamansy" computer.

Page three

It all comes down to old-fashioned methods of grassroots contact —
phone calls, door-to-door canvassing, postcards and letters to likely
Republicans.

Believe me, the Democrat Party is angry. The radical liberals are
once again screaming that Republicans stole the election.
And if you
look at the facts, the Democrats set voter turnout records and
fundraising records in 2004 as well.

There is no question, the Democrats will be back with a vengeance.
And historically the party in the White House loses seats in Congress in
the off year. So you can bet the Democrats will be rejuvenating their
deflated base for 2006 and for the 2008 presidential campaign.

And liberal special interest groups like People for the American
Way, the Trial Lawyers and MoveOn.org,
emboldened by their influence in
2004, are already filling their campaign coffers for 2006.
Republican
candidates at all levels will need the RNC's help
.

So please don't delay in completing your official REPUBLICAN PARTY
CENSUS.

Based on your response, the RNC plans to print and mail a
REPUBLICAN PARTY CENSUS to 5.5 million Republicans so that we can get a
statistically reliable sampling of our Party.

But at a cost of $.40 each, our CENSUS OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY will
cost the RNC over $2.2 million.

So along with your completed GOP CENSUS DOCUMENT, won't you also
enclose a contribution of $500, $250, $100, $50 or even $25 to the
Republican National Committee?

Your gift of $500 will allow another 1,250 Republicans to take part
in this official census. And $250 will help us reach 625 of our fellow
party activists.

But more importantly, your contribution of any size will help the
RNC unify our Party in advance of the 2006 and 2008 elections
!

2004 was a watershed year. But it was only one year.

Republicans will lead the nation based on an agenda that represents
your views. But we can only accomplish this goal if we maintain our
Republican majorities in the U.S. House and Senate and provide strong
support for President Bush's agenda.

And with majorities in both the House and Senate and President Bush

Over, please. . .

22. Page 4, Here's a preemptive accusation of "Professional Activists"
I guess they heard that NPR had reported about the "professional activists" they DID use down in Florida for the T.S. fraud. Then their's my favorite insults: "...radical environmentalists and ultra liberal groups...", I think they're talking about us.

Page four

in the White House, we've got more at stake than ever.

Liberal special interests and some unions will continue to hire
hundreds of "professional activists" and put them in place in targeted
congressional districts around the country. Working together with the
radical environmentalists and ultra liberal groups, these organizers will
set their sights on taking back Congress next year.

To counter these efforts, the Republican National Committee has
already started working on our campaign plans to protect our majorities
in both the U.S. House and Senate.

We're targeting key precincts where we must rebuild our party and
get each and every Republican to the polls.

This is why your GOP CENSUS is so important. We know the best way
to energize Republicans is to have a strong agenda that reflects their
concerns. And to do that, we need your help.

Won't you please:

1. Complete your specially registered REPUBLICAN PARTY CENSUS
and return it to me today?

2. Enclose your most generous gift of $500, $250, $100, $50 or
even $25 to help the RNC mail an official REPUBLICAN PARTY
CENSUS
to 5.5 million Republicans throughout the country?

Remember, your new GOP CENSUS is among the very first to be mailed.
President Bush is counting on all of us.

Sincerely,

Ken Mehlman
Chairman

P.S. It is important that I receive your completed REPUBLICAN PARTY
CENSUS back in the next 7 days. Based on your answers, the
RNC will mail an additional 5.5 million GOP CENSUS DOCUMENTS

to your fellow Republicans in the next 4-6 weeks
to unify and
build our Party for the 2006 mid-term elections and beyond.
Please do not delay in completing your new GOP CENSUS, and
please make your most generous contribution of $500, $250,
$100, $50 or even $25 to help with our GOP CENSUS project.
Thank you.

29. They cast a wide net
I have a wide circle of relatives and friends who screw with them for sheer sport. In the run up to the last election, we traded tales at gatherings. The best had to do with the phone bankers--everything from "Hold on, the UPS man is at my door" (then leaving them on hold forever) to arguing about the amount they could possibly contribute (all my money was in ENRON, I used to be able to give a few hundred, but now I'm waiting for my lawyer to get back to me on my bankruptcy petition). My favorite was "How's the weather in Bangalore?" to a guy who called himself "John" but who was clearly calling from India!!! He actually got the guy to confess his location, by telling him his wife was Indian.

Don't hang up on them, if you can stand not to--screw with them. It costs them money to deal with your blue ass, and provides perverse satisfaction!

...and my scanner only does letter size max, so the 4 files (two each side) would have to be re-assembled by someone who's good at that sort of thing. Also, it's 3 or 4 colors (black and white, and sort of Mustard color, and a lighter version of that color).

But, we would need somewhere secure to post it for down load, I have web space, but I don't know much about bandwidth. Can you tell me what is needed for this?

Or another idea is we could try to get everyone to call them to request one,

or I wonder if it's available on their website?

answer that question for you. But honestly, I don't think it needs to be the official document. They will get the message that they have been screwed if a bunch of Democrats mail in the answers to their GOP consensus on typed up homemade copies.

It would be great if we could get copies of it off the internet that were official but I'm sure they keep track of those numbers. They probably have your name written down as one of the "Republicans " that got the census. It may be on their website too.

Wow! You get to represent all the Republicans in your voting district!! This makes you important!! Yippee!

It then goes on to say that they are mailing out 5.5 million of these things out of the, supposedly, 55 million republicans in the U.S.

Mr. Special recipient, has been reduced to one in ten, and I doubt he will represent everyone in his voting district in even the most progressive district in the country.

39. I got one too - my teenage daughter helped me fill it in
I sent it back with amusing answers and my real opinion. In the donation box I taped two pennies and wrote in "thanks for letting me get my .02 in."

Childish, but still fun and educational for the entire family!

46. Oh you just gave me a great Idea!
We should all make copies of this "Census," then, enclose a $500.00, $1000.00, or $2000.00 I.O.U.!

Hey That's all a U.S. Treasury and Savings Bonds are to our "so call" president.

I wonder if Skinner would let us use the DU logo on them?

Now that would be fun! I may have to start a new post on that. What do you all think?

41. I bounced this off a DNC member, his reply.....
"This is quite common. It's the first wave of a direct mail fundraising solicitation. If the answers came back with affinities towards Republican Issues, within six weeks they'd have a fundraising solicitation in their mail.

People hate being asked for money. Using this method, they're asked for the input first and the mail firms can then determine whether they are likely donors."

45. No one can perfectly predict ever one that will be a likely donor
They are going to choose to continue to solicit a few people that are NOT Republicans. In fact, we should send them some misleading answers so that they will continue to send some of us their rhetoric packages. That gives US the upper hand over them!
