The problem is that the blogs have been too obsessed with looking ahead and missing the current election.
in 2000 the left was so obsessed with drafting John McCain that we overlooked the fact that the House was OURS to loose. When Mike Forbes switched partys , the GOP only led us 221-213-1 , and then the GOP had 26 retirements , most in marginal seats.
We only had 9 retirements.
I thought we had it.
In 2002 redistricting killed us , but we were so obsessed with "DRAFT so and so" for 2004 that we didnt make the best of our bad situation and got killed in the congressional elections. Again the GOP had about 25 retirements and we only had 12.
In 2004 we overlooked the forest for the trees again.
Shays started backtracking a bit starting in 1999 . Johnson did starting in 1997. Its just sad that in 1996 we defeated Gary Franks and had a 4-2 majority with Johnson nearly beat , now we are down 3-2 despite the fact that teh state has went heavily Democratic since then.
Johnson , Simmons , and Shays just keep slithering past us on their belleys every election cycle.
