War Tax Resistance
I contend that people should not participate in war tax resistance. I am against the war and realize that people who are against the war have a right to protest. However, I contend this is a mistake in that the war will be paid for regardless. In addition, this could help Republicans argue for cuts in social programs. This although it is not true allows them to say "well we have to pay for the war, but we do not have enough money so we have to cut education and other programs."

1. I agree
The war *must* be paid for and sacrifices must be made by the rest of America (the soldiers and their families are the only people making sacrifices here).

I say have the wealthy pay for it, as they are the only ones making money off of it. Have any executive of a war contractor (like Haliburton, GE, etc), and any executive of an oil company sacrifice their entire salary and bonus. Have anyone who makes over 250,000 a year contribute 50% of their income to the war.

This war would never have happened if people would have had to make the sacrifices required to execute it.

4. No offense, but that's a pretty shoddy excuse
Edited on Fri Apr-15-05 09:33 AM by DerekG
The war tax resister must face the myriad consequences that could arise from taking said action, and this is nothing to take lightly. However, I find it absurd to use these deranged rightists--a cadre who are already intent on "starving the beast"--as an excuse to continue funding this murderous empire of ours. I myself have finally started looking into this--I've grown wary of paying for the bombs that are used to scorch children (at the behest of thugs like Bush and Clinton). And until I become a resister, I consider myself as complicit in this horror as any Republican voter.

What did Alexander Haig say? "Let them march all they want, as long as they continue to pay their taxes."

On edit: Fixed the Haig quote.

5. No Difference
My main point is that resisting paying taxes will not really make a difference. The bombs will be bought one way or another. By not paying taxes money that could go the education and other things will be taken away.
