as statistical outliers.

2. He can drop all the way to 1%
and it's not going to make a lick of difference. He's on cruise control through 2008. Fasten your seatbelt. It's gonna suck.

9. I disagree. If he keeps declining, it will hurt the Congress
rethugs and the next Rethug presidential contenders. His good fortune (or manipulation) has been that prior declines have been interrupted by events that push his numbers back up. But if a consistent decline continues, Rove and friends won't sit still.

11. You're right.
They won't sit still. They'll declare war on another nation and bring the approval rating right back up.

Fact of the matter is, if his approval rating stays around 40% the rest of the time he's in office, it won't affect him one bit. The Republicans control every branch of government and can pass through anything they want. What makes you think they're going to show even the slightest hint of vulnerability by pulling the Chimp out of office?

15. oh, I don't think there's any chance of that.
I am just saying I don't agree that nothing would change even if his ratings went into the tank and stayed there. You must be too young to remember what his Dad went through.

As you say, they won't sit still this time. But if they can't prop up the ratings, the lunatic right will lose its stranglehold on the Congresspeople and Senators. Everyone will distance themselves from *. They will be very worried about losing their upcoming elections and will change behavior accordingly. And those concerned with keeping the Presidency in Rethug hands will start making much more moderate noises if they can't create some other faux or real crisis to scare and distract voters.

But the big question is what they'll do to prevent the ratings from going much lower and staying there in the first place.

16. I don't know about a war but I do agree about
how they don't care. I told my Dad Bush's poll numbers and he was saying how Bush doesn't need to care about them since it's his last term (he voted for Bush). He said he sometimes wished that a person could run for president again so it'll make them work harder and care more but I think he's also glad that we don't have that rule in case things get pretty bad.

Same thing with the Rethugs in Congress. You heard it here first: that circle jerk Frist (Cat murderer) and Dobson (closet queen, IMHO) are having over the filibuster is only going to succeed in scaring the hell out of rational people and in making them look like the whiny bullies they are. I think their "touch" is gone after the Schiavo fiasco and they are going to get more shrill and desperate. Not only that, DeLay and the SS flim-flammery are not going away and I've even noticed that many more people than previously are seeing through the whoredom of the MSM (when is the last time you heard anyone in the MSM mention deaths in Iraq?-but people know they are still happening). I think it probably all boils down to the fact that people are hurting economically. They can talk and talk and talk, but an empty wallet always trumps.

5. It'll stop between 35-40%
but the truly solid support for these crooks is about 30%. That's the "Beat me, whip me, just scream about gays and pretend to cut my taxes" crowd.

Speaking of that, I see the middle class just got handed a whopping tax increase disguised as the abolition of the estate tax. Instead of getting the first $1.3 million tax free, all of it is now subject to capital gains taxes. http://recenter.tamu.edu/tgrande/vol9-2/1558.html

Thanks a lot, GOP.

14. Agree with that estimate...
...as there's about 30% of the country that will support any Republican in office as preferable to a non-Republican.

This is the hardcore crowd. * could barbecue and eat a baby on national TV and they'd still support him.

6. I hope you're right, but I worry that most people have no idea what a
filibuster is or why it is important. If the Senate work gets stopped or slowed down by Dems I worry the public will punish us.

8. That would be awesome. His approval in the 30's right before the '06
elections would be great; well, that is, it would be great only if we get fair elections.
