Thank you Iowa
Watching last night's debate, I was struck by the congeniality of the participants toward each other. I feel this is a direct result of the negative campaigning in Iowa and the dismal results of those candidates who participated in the mud slinging. Lets hope that this continues throughout the primary process so that we all remain focused on removing W.

While not a Dean supporter, I must also applaud his supporters for the work they did in Iowa. It was Dean and his supporters who energized the Primary process resulting in record voter participation in Iowa.

Thank you for getting out to vote and participating in the process - may all states follow suit.

1. You're welcome, and thank you!
I was one of those Iowa volunteers, and I have been saying all along that whether or not Dean gets the nomination, this campaign has done a lot of good in waking up and shaking up the electorate. Results showing increased turnout, and a heavy turnout in never-caucused and rarely-caucused is good news, assuming those fallen voters stick around until the GE!

3. New voter turnout!
As a caucus chair, I asked how many had NEVER taken part in a Democratic caucus before, and I'd say 2/3 of the hands went up!

I don't know what number to credit the Dean campaign, but I do know they were very energetic and turned out a bunch of those folks. Of our 70 registered participants, 19 indicated Dean as first preference. After realignment, Dean had 20 and won three of our six delegates.

Whoever got them there, 2/3 of all participants were new to the process and motivated to attend. They were willing to be seen and counted as Democrats--in a traditionally Republican town, at a strange kind of meeting, on a very cold night, for whatever reasons.

That's big news! Thanks to all who helped.

4. That is great to hear.
I think a big turnout next fall is our best bet
to remove Bush no matter who runs.

6. OOPS! Edit needed...
...because we elected nine county convention delegates, and Dean did not get half of them. My goof--sorry!

Muscatine 5th went Dean 3, Kerry 3, Edwards 2 (including one Kucinich per realignment deal), and Gephardt 1.
