Poll question: DU Approval Ratings: Hillary Clinton
Results of Previous Polls:
Howard Dean Approve 83% Disapprove 13% No Opinion 4%
Harry Reid Approve 88% Disapprove 12%

Do you approve or disapprove of Hillary Clinton's performance as a US Senator, or do you have no opinion?

1. Man, give me a break.
She isn't there for us every time on every issue, but she's fighting for New Yorkers and for election reform.

I'm not endorsing her as-yet unnannounced candidacy for the Presidency, but she still has my support.

I hope she will continue to evolve into a Democratic senator to be reckoned with who stands for actual progressive values.

Approve of Hillary Clinton? Hell yes.

3. I'm a New Yorker
and I don't think we've ever had two Senators quite as effective as Hillery and Chuck. They are both top drawer, even despite the Iraq vote.

I would NEVER want to see her run for President, though. If we had to nominate a woman, I think Boxer would be a more effective candidate, and certainly a more authentically populist president.

Hillary is still way too close to the DLC people for my liking. Not a real problem in a Senator but clearly the wrong way to go in a President.

23. You guys had Daniel Patrick Moynihan
I'm too young to really remember anything about him and his senate career but from what I've read, he kinda seems like he blows Chuck and Hillary out of the water.

5. Yeah, that's the plan
Seems like 150 votes is usually the response. I'm trying to focus on prominent Democrats, usually ones that have divided opinion on these boards (for example, a poll on Lieberman would likely result in a single-digit approval rating).

6. I approve
She ain't perfect, but she's on our side for the most part.

I've been disappointed from time to time that she was being more "moderate" than she really is or needed to be in terms of representing her constituency as New York's Senator, but I'm not fully certain of this. I'm sure the Re:puke:s will pull out all the stops to try to defeat her in the '06 race and I hope that she will prevail and believe she will.

I've seen no proof that her running for President in '08 is anything more than a right-wing myth. If she did decide to run, she wouldn't be my first choice. There are others I prefer ideologically and others who I think would have a better chance of winning a Presidential election than Clinton would. If she does become our nominee, I would support her and campaign for her but I don't think she is the best choice the Democrats could make for '08 and I hope the media will not decide to anoint her as our nominee before the primaries have even happened (or without her even announcing that she's running, for that matter!).

7. Such a disappointment.
She represents a strongly Democratic state and could use her high profile to bring attention to so many issues and get so much accomplished. I don't know if its ambition or if she's truly a moderate at heart, but I see her term in the Senate as an opportunity to make real change being wasted.

9. when she votes another $81 billion for Iraq, she will lose my vote forever
and she will join the list of other Democrats I will never vote for under any circumstances ...

this vote will condemn thousands more to death and fails to understand that Iraq is doing nothing but serving corporate interests and building a permanent US presence in the oil-rich Middle East ...

don't like it? tough !!!

10. She WILL be the Democratic nominee in 2008
I have absolutely no doubt. Not only is she extremely qualified, but she has the political machine in place to do it.

16. And that's so unfortunate, if true, because she won't flip not one
red state (and you should know that) and may even lose a blue state or two.
She's not horrid, but the right wing we have for media will have had 16 years to sour her in the minds of moderates.

Iowa certainly won't vote for her either.

19. And then we lose - bad.

There's no scenario that has the Democratic candidate winning if (s)he loses Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa. Both in terms of math, and because of what that means about general appeal.

21. Right- OTOH
I think somebody like feingold could pull all those states, plus (perhaps) MO, SD, and could very conceivably take both OH and PA.

22. However
The media's going to make it impossible for him to get the nomination using a self-fulfilling prophecy...

Feingold is a Senator I respect very much, but I don't think we should run a Senator this time. I'd prefer Clark, or a Governor.

11. Being a polarizing figure can be a GOOD thing.
Everyone seems to be convinced she could never be elected because she's so irrationally hated by the rethugs. The flipside of this, is that she's greatly loved and admired by others. There isn't much in between. I suspect a large percent of the country would come to her defense, precisely because of the rabid attacks by the nutbars - even if we don't agree with her on every issue or approve of her every vote. Better to have committed enemies as well as passionate friends, than to simply have determined enemies and kinda-sorta wishy-washy friends.

I think she's great, myself. Definitely approve.

14. I'm not the biggest Hillary fan...
but frankly, I believe that the rightwingnuts hate her because they fear her. She's not as canny a politician as her husband and she's too corporate on alot of issues for me to be thrilled about her in the primaries but I'm not dismissing her as a candidate.
