NeoCons Say: "There is no deficit"
I was talking today in a Library with a friend for whom seemed completely normal except just alittle conservative. When he mentioned how crappy the roads were getting in Sonora and the various other problems I said its because of the huge deficit.

Well his reply is and I quote:
What deficit? there is no deficit were did you here that?

I of coarse said the standard big 3, ABC, NBC and of course CBS.
and some local newspapers and in an "this would be funny if it weren't so tragic" way responded:
What about the biggest news of all? you know fair and balanced...

I thought this was some sort of jock so I responded by saying the name of the local newspaper the Union Democrat.

of course I soon realized he wasn't kidding. He really believes theres no deficit. Maybe I'm naive but I didn't no NeoCons were so sheltered and unaware. Is this just a rare thing or do they all think theres no deficit?

1. I think this kind of denial is rare
I know right wingers who think deficits don't matter, but they know there is a deficit.

Conservatives of the old school would never have said deficits don't matter.

7. there are bush administration press releases, I would bet, that
state deficit projections and corrections. Search for them, print them out and make this guy read them. Even the bushadmin admits (though tries to diminish - via not including things like the costs of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan - the full amount) there are deficits. The only way to make some minds open up - is to throw them first into cognitive dissonance. Force him to "see" - printed out - the administration itself state the deficits (even if they are diminished in magnitude via spin)... and let hims stew on that awhile.

2. It's easy to explain
His minister says there is no deficit and minister speaks for God so it must be true.

4. Not believing there is a deficit is simply denying fact.
When someone says they do not think it is a problem or they do not believe it has grown too large as a % of the GDP...these are opinions with which you can agree or disagree. But saying the deficit doesn't exist is just ignorant.

5. Ask him to do a search for "deficit" at www.whitehouse.gov
Even George realizes there is a deficit and that it's "bad."

It's funny, the first thing that pops up on www.whitehouse.gov is some propaganda that goes like this:

"The President will enforce fiscal discipline on Congress, because when spending is out of control, deficits increase and our economic growth is hindered. Congress must control its enormous appetite for excessive spending, so we can meet our national priorities without undermining our economy."

snip

"The Senate is returning to business as usual - and we must not allow it to go on a spending binge that will damage our economy. Unless the Congress controls its spending, we will face a decade of deficits, and the President will insist on discipline in federal spending."

Hey dumbass, THERE IS A REPUBLICAN MAJORITY IN BOTH HOUSES OF CONGRESS!!!!!

The quotes above are from here.
