Tax exempt Hatefest
will be held this Sunday in a Baptist Church in KY and will feature a speech by the Leading Republican in the United States Senate, bill frist of TN. The theme of the gaggle of religious zealots and republicans: the removal of federal judges who don't base decisions on the bible's teachings and the move to hold them accountable. What will bill frists reaction be when some lunatic, bad ass, flag waving, magnet flashing, bush supporting, constitution hating, never served in the military neanderthal is inspired by his speech and chooses to "remove" a judge from office? Harken back to the days when timothy mcveigh was listening to the rantings of right wing lunatics and their call to downsize the federal government.

I think the time is getting closer when religious zealots lose their second civil war.

1. Cut off the Head and the body dies
Most of these oraganizations are led by men and women who do not trust too many of their own followers, so they keep everything close to the vest, or share their plans with a selected few.

Look at what happened to Jim Baker, when he was sinking even his fellow evangelists were circling around him like sharks to a chum bucket. The loyalty of these people to one another is about as thick
as rice paper. And that is where their weakness is, we just need to
take advantage of it.

We REALLY don't want to go there. The Fundies are armed to the teeth.

3. How revealing would it be if the church building is quietly
appraised, and the amount appraised is compared to how much this church actually does for its community's poor?

Interesting comment here:

Louisville Courier-Journal op/ed on the event:
http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050419/OPINION01/504190348/-1/SCENEdining

Meanwhile, the telecast on which Sen. Frist has agreed to participate -- it's entitled "Justice Sunday" and will originate from Highview Baptist Church in Louisville -- is similarly scurrilous. (It also raises the question of why Highview Baptist should retain tax-exempt status if it is to be used in such blatantly political fashion.)

The event targets judges who supposedly, in the words of one organizer, "rob us of our Christian heritage and our religious freedoms."

That, too, is a fantasy. America's religious freedom is its guarantee that anyone can choose any faith, or no faith, without government interference. The First Amendment specifically bars the government from favoring and promoting any one religious tradition.

5. Derby and I are thinking about
infiltrating a Baptodome in DFW that will be showing this propaganda. I don't know if my jaw can take constant teeth grinding, or if I can even dress up to pass for a Baptobabe. If we do, big IF, we'll post our reports.

9. This is encouraging....The FRC site only lists a church in a small MS town
for my area code. I'm in Memphis, with no shortage of wingnut mega churches, and yet they only list a showing in Ecru, Mississippi!

11. TAX THE CHURCHES
if they can't keep their noses out of politics, politics shouldn't keep it's nose out of their business. And businesses they are, and political machines they are, and erasing the separation of church and state they are, and endorsing candidate and policies they are....they otta be taxed like any political business
