Bolton and the Stealth Policy
There's another reason to oppose Bolton's nomination to become Ambassador to the UN. Today Bush* said that Bolton is "the right man at the right time" to head our mission to the UN. What he didn't tell us is that his real mission is to destroy the UN as an independent decision-making body and turn it into a rubber stamp for US imperialism.

That's why Bolton was nominated. His mission is to bully blackmail, bribe and coerce the UN to knuckle under to anythign King George wants.

How does the American Public feel about this? Is this what Bush* promised during the campaign? Did he even mention it during the campaign? Where is his mandate to do this?

What a lot of people don't understand about government is that budgets and appointments are not about money or people....they're about POLICY.

Destruction of the UN is the POLICY

1. I know what you're saying
I have a similar view. But as I see it, the US isn't in much of a position right now (thanks to BushCo) to be bullying or coercing. Instead, I think Bolton's role is to further shun any cooperation with the rest of the world.

Remember, right out of the gate in 2001, they set about withdrawing from international treaties and negotiations. They just do NOT see the need for listening to anybody else and working together; to them that's just a hindrance. All they need is an enemy, and they'll create enemies if need be.

2. The mindset
of the Bush* administration is such that they see the Un like the United States Congress. In other words, there is no limit to how much they can threaten, bribe or coerce the individual members into doing their bidding....if they just have the right person as the US representative....

I disagree with you only to the extent that it doesn't matter if if the rest of the world hates them; so does the US Congress Repubs and Dems alike, but that doesn't stop Dubya from bulldozing or bullying his way through them...he thinks he can do the same with the UN.

3. Actually I think it is more sinister then that:
I believe with the appointment of Negroponte to his position and with a man like Bolton in the UN the objective is really Iran. Mr. Negroponte can start disseminating "Facts" about Iran Nuclear prowess alla "WE KNOW WHERE THE WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION ARE" and then a guy like Bolton can do his bit at the UN, and it is really not about presenting the facts but rather reminding members of the UN how the US might be able to hurt them ecconomically if they don't get on board with a strong move against Iran in a boycott or even with an ultimatum to Iran to either give up any hint of nuke power or face the consequences like Iraq.....
