Allow a Veteran A Rant
Tonight I watched CBS News as I always do. I saluted a Veteran in their Fallen Heros Segment. They also had a story about how the military gets personal belongings back to the families of those killed in combat. Our kids are dying in Iraq and Civilians are dying in Iraq. Why? Because scum at Free Republic and their fellow travelers support the military deserter in the White House. The garbage that rants about the sanctity of life, celebrates the death of our Soldiers and Marines and Sailors and Airmen and CoastGuardsmen solely because a fucking piece of garbage republican is the commander in chief. Our servicemembers lives mean nothing to those who call themselves conservative.

Free Republic members love America for its perks, but they hate the Constitution because it gives Veterans like me the freedom to tell the truth about garbage like them. And the easiest way to piss off a conservative is to tell the truth.

I swore to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign AND DOMESTIC. Bring it on garbage, I got a badass motherfucking trashcan.

CBS News and its stories about our Veterans brought the tears flowing. Thanks for the opportunity to rant.

8. Your rant made me think
about all those kids who are dying in Iraq. I read this morning about the 11 that went down in a helicopter and I wanted to scream at people on the freeway who seem not to even realize it is happening. It's like we don't even have any feeling for the war that is going on in our name.

I had two uncles: one who served in Vietnam and one who didn't. The one who didn't serve--just lucky, didn't get called up--was always hot to send the military to any hotspot in the news. The uncle who served kept telling him, "You just don't understand what you are asking people to do." They got in pretty bad fights. The one who served was and is a Democrat. The one who didn't is a frigging neocon.

My veteran uncle got exposed to agent orange in Vietnam and never had kids of his own.

However, there are veterans here who are just as stupid. I've got a right-wing Christo-fascist at work who is just like that -- never ever saw real combat, isn't at all bright, and feels Bush is the frickin' messiah.

20. Thank you very much
No one at DU has ever let me down; and if they do that's just fine and dandy cause that's what America is all about; that's why I spent 24 years supporting and defending, so we don't have to get along if we don't want to.

I'm in great shape except for my knees. I live 70 miles from a big old Air Force Hospital and care has been great so far but I'm just a pup in my 50's. I care about the older farts and pitch fits and raise hell for them. Hopefully someone will be pitching and raising for me down the road. I don't believe Veterans ask for a handout, just a fair shake.

Thanks for your kind consideration.

12. I watched that too BOSSHOG!
It was pretty sad to hear them talk about sending these servicemember's personal belongings home to their mourning families. CBS is a little dissappointing lately. This particular segment seemed to commend those in charge for all the trouble they go to to comfort the families of our fallen heros. While it is true that they take great pride in caring for these personal items, how about we address how this administration DOESN'T take care of veterans and servicemembers. For instance, getting them involved in such a dangerous mission by misleading the public, ect. In this night of news CBS also had their pentagon "strategist" talking about how well things are going over in Iraq despite today's increase in violence. Last week I actually heard CBS say that the war was over! WTH?

BOSSHOG, I commend you for your service to this country and I truly appreciate the sacrifices you have made to defend our Constitution.

I'd like to refer you to this post on Randi Rhodes's message board. I think it's very appropriate to your post and it really got to me.

Cmon, give him his props. He Comanded a Sub. 7 Years in the Navy doesn't do Officer Nuke/Sub school justice. It is mentally grueling and rising up the ranks to a command in that short amount of time is astounding.

As for me I was enlisted, Qualified in Submarines.

54. okok :)
The line from his official WH Bio is: "After seven years' service as a naval officer, Carter returned to Plains. . ."

Although, on the nobelprize.org site, his bio is more fulsome: "He was educated in the Plains public schools, attended Georgia Southwestern College and the Georgia Institute of Technology, and received a B.S. degree from the United States Naval Academy in 1946. In the Navy he became a submariner, serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific fleets and rising to the rank of lieutenant. Chosen by Admiral Hyman Rickover for the nuclear submarine program, he was assigned to Schenectady, N.Y., where he took graduate work at Union College in reactor technology and nuclear physics, and served as senior officer of the pre-commissioning crew of the Seawolf, the second nuclear submarine."

Perhaps, his bio on the WH site was written by Bushco?

I'll edit my original list and when it reposts it'll read:

Jimmy Carter: 7 years in Navy, Seawolf Submarine Commander

30. Do not believe everything you read...
I am a vet and very against shrubby and his war. I know a lot of vets feel the same way. I was home this summer golfing with my father and two of his golf buddies. My dad is a retired Navy chief (20 years in), one of his buddies was a retired master sergeant (30 years in) and another was retired air force. They all hated Bush with a passion. Not just because of his war, but because of the way this administration treats the vets.

To quote my father, "I would vote for Al Sharpton before I voted for Bush."

32. Yes, Auntie, there are a lot...
Just look at all the vets, and serving members, and their families, here at DU.

Something that really impressed me when I was a Kerry Traveler in Ohio was when a woman, along with her mother and her brother, came in to the Kerry field office in Columbus to volunteer in the phone bank. The woman was a Desert Storm vet whose husband was in Iraq, and during the evening she asked for a Kerry bumper sticker. She said it was the only thing her husband asked her to send him in Iraq.

Like BOSSHOG, the rest of the vets here are painfully aware of where we stand in Iraq:

U.S. KIA 1565 / WMD 0

Love & Peace, Pinboy

45. Couldn't agree with you more
"Why? Because scum at Free Republic and their fellow travelers support the military deserter in the White House... And the easiest way to piss off a conservative is to tell the truth. "

47. Great post, BOSSHOG! And you don't need to ask to rant...
And you don't need to thanks us for the opportunity ("Thanks for the opportunity to rant"). We all have the right to rant, and I think you earned it more than most.

What an awesome post. I hope lurking freeper chickenhawks see it.
:applause:

58. well said
I stopped watching the news, because I would get so pissed off at some of the dumb remarks from people who think they know what a vet thinks or feels. Like they have ever been any where or seen the destruction first hand. which for a lot of them they haven't, pictures don't show enough. it is easier to separate from them then being there where you can't look away or turn the picture away.
