DIck Morris thinks nuclear option will be disaster for GOP
I do not like or trust Dick Morris but he is smart and has been accurate on some of his political call. Morris thinks that the nuclear option will be a disaster for the GOP and Bush. http://www.thehill.com/thehill/export/TheHill/Comment/DickMorris/042005.html The Schiavo case amplifies the concern of moderate voters over a possible rules change to block filibusters. The attitude of GOP conservatives, led by House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas), that moderate judges needed to be punished for their independence sends a chill up the spines of most independent voters.

With the filibuster decision bookended by the Terry Schiavo case before and a Supreme Court confirmation battle likely following it, the issue has the potential to spell disaster for the Republican Party.

snip

But an attempt to switch the rules in the middle of the game on judicial filibusters will really make his alliance with the Christian right the main issue in his second-term presidency, with disastrous results.

Americans are simply not on board with his Moral Majority agenda. They voted for Bush twice — or once — despite his advocacy of a pro-life position, and his Schiavo posturing alienated moderate voters even more. His attempt to bar a filibuster will be seen as an effort to steamroll America into accepting the radical-right agenda on moral issues and will cost Bush the ballast he needs to appeal to the center of American politics.

1. Fortunately for Bush
he doesn't give a fat rat's ass about appealing to the center of American politics. Neither does Delay.

3. I agree
But I also want to see it.

I believe that the US public will only be moved back left only when the Republicans are allowed to overplay their hand and are succesful in turning their agenda into the law of the land. The middle class must feel the pain both financially and socially before they move out of their comfort zones and start to see the radical right for what they are.

I know that sounds cold but I doubt there will be a massive shift of moderates to progressive ideals unless this happens.

Maybe Bush getting re-elected was a good thing after all. If Kerry was elected he would have just ended up getting blamed for the coming economic downturn and the continued quagmire in Iraq.

5. The Republicans are power abusing extremists
The public gets little glimpses of how the RW operates when stories get too big to cover up...like the Schiavo case. Perhaps some will find out from the nuclear option fight how far the RW is prepared to go.

10. We could win by losing
As much as I would hate to see P. Owen on the fifth cir. or to risk having Scalia as chief justice, it may be in the democrats best interest is the nuclear option is triggered. The right is over playing its hand and there will be blowback.

I hope that the nuclear option is not exercised. I just can stand the concept of Thomas or Scalia as chief justice.

12. he's a Johnny Come Lately on everything

But, alas, he has finally caught on that the country's trending Liberal.

As for filibuster argument, the polling has it much more clearly in Democrats' favor (by about 60 to 35) than you'd guess from the media coverage and Web punditry.

13. Dick head propagated the lie that Venezuela exit polls were lgit on FOX.
I dont care what this ass hole has to say.

Venezuela has paper receipts for elections UNLIKE our nation , yet this fuck hole Morris goes infront of Hume and tells everybody why our CIA run exit polls (he of coarse didnt mention the fact about who runs our exit polls)are 100% accurate and that the election was "stolen by Chavez".

Ill take the reviews and policys of Chavez and Jimmy Carter over the likes of Dick Morris and Wes Clark anyday.
