Poll question: What should the BACKGROUND of our 2008 Nominee be?
Edited on Sat Apr-23-05 12:22 AM by Zynx
As in, what sort of experience should they have? I'm not going to use names - I hope that most people know who our Democratic governors and Senators are. And private sector/outsider can be just about anyone.

1. This is far too faceless a poll...
for such a personality-driven campaign, which is what a Presidential race always is.

2. Yes, but people always say "Don't run Senators" or "Don't Run Neophytes"
It's more along those lines.

3. Hmmm...let's see...
Not an insider, not a current office holder.

Accepts title of liberal gladly.

Liberal domestic policies.

Strong administrative experience.

Strong foreign affairs experience.

Strong military background.

Respect for his intellect and integrity.

Guts and willingness to really mix it up.

From Arkansas.

Well,

Hey, Bush, make my day!

5. Clark vs. Frist
What a race that would be.

And it could happen...if Hillary doesn't run. ;)

8. Just imagine the 1st Kerry-Bush debate, every day of the campaign.
Clark would kick this guys ass all over the 48 contiguous states and those other parts too! It would be the best. Frist is a weak sister and looks like a corpse. Oh, and he's Mr. HMO, not too appealing for the average voter.

This is a great image, our guy just bitch slapping the opponent at every opportunity, up close and from afar.

We must fix the farking election fraud problem by then.

BTW, I think Hillary will fade. 2008 will be so heavy duty, it will be a resume/experience/best candidate election. Smarts and real-world experience will sell.

:hi:

10. "Smarts and real-world experience will sell."

Say that to the 59+ million people who voted for Bush!

Being a superstar tends to trump a fancy resumé. ;)

12. Placebo, I'm glad I provided you some chuckles, truly
However, think about it, people only get smart as a collective group when there is a crisis. In 2004, there was not enough of a crisis for the masses to feel the pain, therefore they elected Kerry by a small enough margin to allow the crooks to steal it for Bush. In 2008, things will be even worse, we'll have had our first predicted (by the Pentagon study) eco catastrophes, the economy will suck and our military/foreign affairs problems will be exponentially greater.

This is what I mean by "it will be a resume" election. People, not all of them but enough, will be desperate for someone who can clean up the mess. The Dominionists will do their thing but they'll be a minority and with a real, qualified candidate, we'll prevail.

:hi:

6. I say we clone FDR and though he isn't a Dem I think we all would find
him progressive enough, Eugene V Debs for VP. It would make sure we get back to our roots and with FDR we know he can handle the job.

7. Started off low. Has some record of "nurturance" -- putting interests of
others first.

Doesn't matter so much what their previous job was, so long as they didn't have a priveleged upbringing and haven't been in the private sector arguing that it's important to get very rich -- that they're right to put their own self-interest first.

11. Let's put it this way...
1976 - Carter

1980 - Reagan

1988 - Poppy

1992 - Clinton

2000 - Gore or Chimpy (depending on who you believe)

What's the common denominator in nearly 30 years of Presidential elections? In each case, the winner was either a governor/ex governor or a sitting Vice President. i.e. the executive branch.

Any questions?

But I agree about presidential races these days. The candidates are over-managed.

If it's the right person, I don't care what their background is.
